CHILDREN OF LIGHT
David Abankwah
READ: Daniel 3

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
-Matthew 5:16 | NKJV

Once upon a time in the life of Israel, she was besieged by the Babylonians led by King Nebuchadnezzar. After her besiege, King Nebuchadnezzar instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had the ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans. And the king Nebuchadnezzar appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank.

Furthermore, He ordered that, these men should be trained three years, so at the end of that time, they might serve before the king. These men of exile who were sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. When these men were taken as exiles, their names were changed into that of gods as Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego because Babylon was a city of darkness. Babylon is likened to our world now as a world of darkness; a crazy world. The world can call us all sort of bad names as a means of drawing us from God but we shouldn’t let the temptations we are going through now, deter us from being children of light.

The names of the four sons of Judah being changed into the names of gods represents pride of life. It seemed the devil was done with his wile of pride of life until he attempted to defile them with foods sacrificed onto idols which is a representation of lust of the flesh. Daniel and his friends determined there was no way they were going to succumb to that. So Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank so he and his friends would not become children of darkness just because of lust of the flesh – food. In this case, he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Daniel did not only think about himself but went ahead to speak in the matter of his other friends by approaching the steward set over them. As you have become a child of the light, do you think about children of darkness or you look unconcerned about their situation. When your other believers are falling away, do you intercede for them or use their situations as gossips? The devil was not done until he made an image of gold so all the people could serve which stood as the lust of the eyes. Again, Hananiah, Azariah, and Melshiah stood as children of light in the midst of fire. As a child of the light, the devil has nothing else than his old tricks of lust of the eyes, flesh and pride of life as his temptations.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for the steadfastness, determination, and perseverance to stand in the gap of all temptations as a child of the light without failing away in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
History repeats itself so is the repetition of the devil’s same old tricks of lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and pride of life.
