BIRTHRIGHT
David Abankwah
READ: Genesis 25:33
Lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his BIRTHRIGHT.
-Hebrews 12:16 | NKJV
A birthright is a right, privilege, or possession to which a person is entitled by birth. God being the Alpha of all things and Author of our faith, is a God of leadership. God respects leaders. Leadership is determined by God and not by men. That is why God entreats us to subject ourselves to governing authorities or leaders. As the second born, third born or what have you, you may not like the firstborn, but that is your leader. That firstborn may not be rich or wealthy. He or she may be an illiterate or not a great academician but you still need to respect and humble yourself under the person’s authority. The firstborn may be diseased, yet, you still need to subject yourself under him or her.
No matter the circumstance a firstborn may be in, God still sees the person as a leader. You can’t break this divine code of leadership. If you are a firstborn, don’t try to sell your birthright. There are so many privileges firstborns have. When God wants to speak to the family, apart from the father, the next person God chooses to speak to, will be the firstborn and not the mother. Hardly will God speak to the mother if the firstborn is still living. Firstborns are natural leaders and if they are put into leadership positions, they thrive easily! Like Esau, many firstborns are selling their birthrights to their younger siblings because they don’t know their worth in the family.
God picks firstborns as His. I am not talking about babies who were aborted before their mothers gave birth to subsequent children. A child that comes from the womb of a woman first, who hasn’t done abortion before, is a legitimate firstborn. Many women who have done abortion before have lost their legitimate firstborns. Legitimate firstborns are a blessing. They easily become godly because right from birth, God chooses them to be His property. True blessing is not money, wealth, number of cars, number of companies, houses, or what have you. The true blessing is God and that is what firstborns have as their birthrights which cannot be taken.
You can’t trade God for any thing. Jesus Christ is above money, wealth, riches, cars, houses, companies and what have you. Believers, do well to keep Jesus Christ as your ultimate birthright. He is the only birthright that you can go with after your death. Don’t sell Him for few minutes of sex pleasure. Don’t sell Him for a job. Don’t sell Him for money. Don’t sell Him for wealth. Don’t sell Him for cars. Don’t sell Him for ungodly friends. Don’t sell Him for lusts of the eyes. Don’t sell Him for lusts of the flesh. Don’t sell Him for pride of life. Don’t sell Him for any sin, iniquity, abomination, or transgression. Maintain Him as your birthright even if it will cost you your very life.
