EXCOMMUNICATION
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 1

But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “PUT AWAY FROM YOURSELVES THE EVIL PERSON.”
-I Corinthians 5:13 | NKJV

Excommunication is an ecclesiastical censure depriving a person of the rights of church membership. It also means an exclusion from fellowship in a group or community. When someone is excommunicated that person is forced to stay outside the reach of the church. The church also does not accept the person’s tithes, offerings, and contributions. The church also strips the person off from his or her position in the church and in that case, the person becomes a common floor member. The church does not allow the person to engage in the affairs of the church until a particular period. The person is called before the congregation and his or her sin is announced and the ban is declared.

Excommunication is like a ban that is placed on a member of a church who has committed sin usually immorality which can defile the church. If we say the church, the church is you and I. The building is just a place of worship. The real church is the body. We are the temples of God (1 Corinthians 3:16). Sin is what destroys the church. Therefore we shouldn’t sin deliberately and return to God for forgiveness, thinking we will go scot free. God will forgive you but He will punish you. Whatever you sow, you will reap and the payment of sin is death. Many churches are not doing excommunication anymore because the offenders are probably rich, wealthy, great people and those who hold positions.

Are you gathering quantity, or you are gathering quality? Such churches quote that we should allow such people to be in the church and they will change. They also say we should allow the tares and the good crops to grow together till Christ comes. The same Christ was in Paul and He ordered that an immoral brother should be excommunicated from the Church of Corinth. Because of money, the church has been corrupted. Excommunication is never old-fashioned and no one is wiser than the Holy Spirit. If you don’t do physical excommunication, the twenty-four elders will sit on the matter and do spiritual excommunication.

Paul listed some of the sins that makes one eligible for excommunication in 1 Corinthians 5:11. But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is SEXUALLY IMMORAL, or COVETOUS, or an IDOLATER, or a REVILER, or a DRUNKARD, or an EXTORTIONER — not even to eat with such a person. -I Corinthians 5:11 | NKJV. Those who are legible for excommunication are those who are sexually immoral, covetous people, idolaters, reviler (verbal abusers), drunkards, and extortioners (those who obtain money or kind from people with force, intimidation, undue, or illegal power).

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for deliverance from the spirit of sexual immorality and its root extinction in your soul so you will not be spiritually excommunicated in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
Excommunication is the sickle for the pruning of the divine vineyard.
