EXCOMMUNICATION
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 6

Now the man who acts presumptuously and will not heed the priest who stands to minister there before the Lord your God, or the judge, that man shall die. SO YOU SHALL PUT AWAY THE EVIL FROM ISRAEL.
-Deuteronomy 17:12 | NKJV

The Old Dispensation and the New Dispensation is not much of a difference just that the Old was just the shadow of the realness of the New. I must say, the Old Testament was the OBJECT and the New Testament is the SUBJECT. The New Testament is also a repetitive of what happened in the Old Testament. Many of the words of Jesus Christ were Old Testament based and many of the words of the Apostles were also Old Testament based. Thus the New Testament was a fulfilment of the Old Testament. Therefore we cannot just brush off the Old Testament thinking it is outmoded. Many who brush off the OT still quote Malachi for tithes.

One of the ancient landmarks in the Old Testament was excommunication. Because the Israelites were the church to come in the New Testament as spiritual Israelites, God (Jesus Christ) gave so many rules and regulations that needed to be carried out concerning the excommunication of offenders. Another sect of people who were eligible for excommunication were those who were familiar with the Priest and because of that, became presumptuous towards the teachings and preaching of the Word of God. Many believers who continue to live in sin often become presumptuous towards the messages of Ministers they are familiar with.

To be presumptuous means: overstepping due bounds (as of propriety or courtesy): taking liberties. Without familiarity, you can’t be presumptuous. The more you get to know someone very well, the more you are readily disposed towards familiarity. That is why at times, it is very difficult to flow in the ministry of a friend you knew very well in the world before God called the person. When your family member becomes a Pastor, it is very difficult to flow in the ministry of that person just because you think he is still your family member. The more you get to know your Pastor, the more you get to know his weaknesses and strengths and the more likely you will become presumptuous.

That is why many Pastors’ wives often become familiar with their husbands, and then tend to be presumptuous towards their ministries. The more you get to know a Minister, the more you have a feel that he is human and the more presumptuousness you develop towards the messages God speak through him. There are so many friends of mine who don’t take my devotionals seriously just because they know me. The Word of God is not a Word of man. Also there are many people who have been presumptuous with God thinking He is a God of mercy and not a God of Justice so they don’t heed to His warning of the lake of fire, saying once saved is forever saved.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for deliverance from the spirit of familiarity and presumptuousness towards God and His Ministers so you can always take the Word of God seriously and flow in Him in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
Those who are presumptuous towards God often see Him as a God of love and not a God of Justice.
