EXCOMMUNICATION
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 7

And all the people shall hear and fear, and no longer act presumptuously.
-Deuteronomy 17:13 | NKJV

Presumption has killed many ministries. Presumption has killed the life of many Christians. Presumption has weakened the relationship one should have had with God. If you have a weakness concerning how readily you become presumptuous towards those who are very closer to, then you have to deal with it immediately with the fruit of self-control. When you have self-control, you will know how to draw certain boundaries as to what to think about, to say, and to do towards Ministers of God. If you are rich in the church, that does not mean you can be familiar with your Shepherd. If you give fat offerings and tithes, that does not mean you have to walk on people like door mats.

If you are a wealthy person, that does not mean you have to control people like slaves. You can’t use your profession, level of education, career, or any status you have in the world to control an Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, or Teacher. No matter what position you have in the world, when you get into the church, you are a nobody. Jesus Christ who is the head of the church controls everybody in the church through the angel He has designated to be the earthly Shepherd. In the church, age doesn’t matter. If you are older than the Pastor, that doesn’t give you the right to misbehave. If you are excommunicated, accept it in good faith and flow accordingly.

Because many people are presumptuous towards Ministers of God, when they are excommunicated in church A, they leave there and attend church B thinking that they have escaped it. If you go to church B, the mark of judgement is still upon your head. Church excommunication is a judgement by handling over the offender to Satan so he can destroy that person’s body so the soul of that offender can be saved (1 Corinthians 5:3, 5). If you are excommunicated in the church, don’t think you are being disgraced before the congregation. If you don’t want disgrace in public, then stop sinning! If you deal with the cause (sin), the church will also refrain from its effect (excommunication).

Deuteronomy 17:13 gives us one of the importance of excommunication. It states that excommunication sets as an example of fear or deterrent for the rest of the church so no one will dare engage in sin. If a brother or sister is called before the congregation and is therefore excommunicated, it is setting as an example for the rest of the congregation that, if you commit sin, that is what will happen to you too. It is a disgrace for a believer to sin not only as in excommunication but in one’s secret place. When you are alone, what do you do? When you are alone, what do you watch? When you are alone, what do you hear? When you are alone, what do you say?

Lift up prayers for the eyes of deterrence to figure out the lessons of Biblical events of excommunication and the power to carry out righteous deeds from such experiences in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
The Bible is filled with all examples of people who were excommunicated, serving as deterrence for us to stay away from sin.
