Selfishness or self-ambition is the concern for one’s own welfare or advantage at the expense of or in disregard of others. Selfish ambition or selfishness is also the excessive interest in oneself concerning goal achievement while slowing the process or ending that of others. Destroying, slandering, backbiting, or befalling people’s success will not elevate yours. God never supports anyone who always seek to lessen people so he can be on top. If we ever have any ambition, it must not benefit ourselves only but that of others. We are blessed for others and not ourselves. God made Abraham a blessing so he could be a blessing for others (Genesis 12:2).
Why then do you say you are a descendant of Abraham or a child of faith and you want to be a blessing for your own self? If God was ever a selfish God, He would not have created anything and anyone. See the people He has created who are always sinning against Him. Look at the angels He created who rebelled against Him and are still doing so. Yet, He knew all these would be, but yet, He created them. When we were lost, He came for us. He didn’t keep His blood from us but because of love, He became selfless. Without love, you can never be selfless. Because many are filled with lust, they always crave things for themselves and not that of others.
Why can you be an unbeliever and be unconcerned about other believers who are falling away in the faith. When there is an opportunity for visitation, you don’t even go but you want God to bless you. When you have opportunity to minister to lost souls, you say in your mind that, that is not the right time to do that. True love is to be a vessel of operation for the Lord to use to save someone who is lost. When you were lost, Jesus Christ came for you. Why don’t you do the work of an evangelist then for others to be saved? Because of selfish ambition, many believers are always busy in school, workplace, poised for entertainment etc, making them unconcerned about their own families.
Inasmuch as you have time for others, you can also have good time with your family. This is the reason many Pastor’s children are spoilt. They spend time with the church and less quality time with their children. If your family is not in good shape, you can’t even lead God’s sheep (1 Timothy 3:5). Because of selfish ambitions, we can’t even sacrifice ourselves as living sacrifices onto God. Evidence of selfish ambition is why many can’t tithe faithfully. If it is not selfishness, then why do you want to hold on to the 10% of God’s share? God wants us to be concerned about the kingdom more than our personal gain. He also wants us to be concerned about the welfare of others too. Many people need our time, money, etc to make their lives better.

Lift up prayers for deliverance from lust that makes you self ambitious. Pray for the love to be concerned about the welfare of others so you can be a blessing to them in the name of Jesus Christ.
