THE BEATITUDES
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 6
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
-Matthew 5:8 | NKJV
When Jesus Christ was teaching the beatitudes, He knew that one day modern-day believers would say Christianity is in the heart and live their lives anyhow and that was why Matthew 5:8 was written years before this generation. The kind of food you feed on, is a gateway to the heart and the heart is also a gateway to your soul or the inner man. So if you normally eat someone’s food for a long time, you become attached to the person. No wonder it is normally difficult to get detached from your mother than your father. She had been feeding you with her breastmilk from infancy and also her cooked foods from your childhood till the time you decided to leave home to make ends meet somewhere.
That also applies to Christianity. The kind of church you go has an influence on your heart because the kind of spiritual food you eat through the listening of God’s Word has a direct influence on your heart and then your soul. If you are in a church that likes prosperity-based messages, that is what your heart will also become and if you hear someone preaching salvation-based messages, you feel infuriated that the person is always judging others. In this generation, it is not about prosperity, it is about the salvation of the soul. The end is here and all we should think about is how we can be pure in heart by staying away from all sins. Jesus Christ never preached about prosperity. That was not what He came on earth to do! His main mission was salvation.
We can be pure in heart by applying forgiveness. There are times people will offend us and it is not good for a believer to keep offences in his heart. There are people who will smile at you but deep within them, they are bitter. I will rather frown at you for you to know that I am not happy with you than to look nice outside. Purity in heart is very important to God because that is His master bedroom. The heart was the only place Jesus Christ said He was knocking at, so we can open Him there (Revelation 3:20). God doesn’t stay in golden cathedrals built by men but a pure heart because our bodies are the temples of God (1 Corinthians 3:16). We can also make the heart pure by guarding our hearts from all issues of life.
There are going to be various issues of life that will contend with the Word of God that are sown in our hearts. They are like weeds that are always competing with the nutrients in the soil of our hearts with the Word of God. We shouldn’t sleep or go off course for the devil to plant strange tares in our hearts. We should not allow weeds to grow alongside the Word of God within our hearts for the harvest because by that time the small weeds had already taken the whole of our hearts. We can be pure in heart by allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us always. It is Him who can convict us and free us from all things we have no control over. If we have anything we must pursue most, it is purity in heart because without it, we can’t see God face to face in New Jerusalem (Revelation 22:4).

Lift up prayers for the Lord to give you a new heart that is broken that loves unconditionally and forgives all offences in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
If you have been serving God without knowing His face, then it means your heart is still not pure before Him. You have to know the God you serve.
