DIVORCE

“Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’

One of the laws of Moses that Jesus Christ came to update it was the law concerning divorce. Marriage is a lifetime institution that God had purposed for spiritual people because He knew what was ahead of time. Marriage is a tool by God as an avenue of salvation. Marriage is not there for those who are ready physically, materially, emotionally, and psychologically. Marriage is there for those who are spiritually matured. We wrestle not against flesh and blood and that applies to marriage. When you are not spiritually strong, how are you going to defeat the evil spirits that work against marriage? The first sign that shows that you are ready for marriage, is spiritual maturity.
Today many believers don’t check the spirituality that is beyond their partner’s life and they just enter marriage. Many believers marry based on how financially sound they have become. Many women are looking for men who can cater for them financially, yet they don’t bother checking their spirituality because they are carnally minded. To be carnally minded is death and that is why marriages break down even before the ring is put on their fingers. It is also very important that marriage counsellors look into the spiritual background before advising singles to go into marriage. If you care about spirituality, God will definitely reveal to you what the person you are about to marry is.
If God is ever going to appear in the sky and announce that He has licensed divorce, many Pastors would have led the queue to divorce theirs. Many Pastors have married witches just because they were looking at what was physical and not what was spiritual. Some were very prayerful but when they married they have become prayerless. Some used to fast but after marriage, they can’t. Some were very anointed but after marriage, their oil has dried up. For those Pastors who couldn’t sustain the pressure are now divorced and they know they are going to hell. The fact that a Senior Pastor has divorced his wife doesn’t mean it is a good thing for you to imitate. Imitate what is good and not what is evil.
If you are spiritually matured, you will know marriage is not a contract that you can enter and terminate any time you feel like. Marriage is not just for everyone and if you are one of such people, you will always have problems in your marriage. There are people who are made by God to stay single so they can work out their own salvation well. Jesus Christ never married physically because He knew marriage would have caused His mission of saving us. The wife would have probably prevented her from dying on the cross. Life is all about salvation but marriage is getting many people into hell. Today any matter at all, spouses take advantage of that to divorce.

Lift up prayers for increment of your level of faithfulness toeards your marriage vows as a married person and strength to overcome all temptations of divorce in the name of Jesus Christ.
