RETALIATION

READ: Exodus 21:24; Leviticus 24:20
“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’
-Matthew 5:38 | NKJV
One of the laws the death of Jesus Christ buried was the Mosaic law of retaliation. Many people are mistaken when we say the law. There are two types of laws: The Mosaic laws and the Ten Commandments. The death of Jesus Christ buried some of the Mosaic laws and left some, but the death of Jesus Christ never buried any of the Ten Commandments. The Mosaic law of retaliation says that: ‘AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH, HAND FOR HAND, FOOT FOR FOOT, BURN FOR BURN, WOUND FOR WOUND, STRIPE FOR STRIPE.’
Meaning, whatever good or evil thing you do for someone or against someone, should be returned like for like or must be repaid in kind.
For instance, 1. He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.
- If a man acts with premeditation against his neighbor, to kill him by treachery, you shall take him from My altar, that he may die. 3. He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death.
- And if a man beats his male or female servant with a rod, so that he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.
- If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life.
We should thank Jesus Christ for dying to nullify such laws, otherwise the sins we would have done against people would have been returned to us kind for kind. If it is not for the death of Jesus Christ when you kill someone, you too must be killed. When you steal especially those in government who embezzle funds, your belongings worthy as such, would have been seized. As a believer, what has someone done against you? It truly you have repented, you wouldn’t have thought of retaliating the bad things people have done against you. Instead of retaliating for the good things people do for us, we normally forget it and rather retaliate for the evil things people do against us.
If there is anyone we have offended from the time of our childhood till now, it is God. We don’t commit sin against humanity. We commit it against God (Genesis 39:9). Despite all the evil things we have done, God did not withhold His breath from us. He has kept us this far hoping that we will repent. If God had retaliated for the evil things we have done, then, no human will ever be left. As believers, there are so many people who will offend us. If we retaliate for the little offences people do against us, then we are calling for the wrath of God concerning the bigger sins we have done against Him. The best person who needs to have retaliated for the sins we have done against, is God.

Lift up prayers for the heart of love to overcome the event of retaliation anytime someone offends you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
We become hindrances to divine vengeance when we retaliate for the sins done by others.
