MORE THAN ENOUGH
David Abankwah

And if you greet your brethren only, WHAT DO YOU DO MORE THAN OTHERS? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
-Matthew 5:47 | NKJV

Our Lord and God Jesus Christ expects us to do more than we are expected in this life. We should attempt great things for God. It is a normal thing for a tax collector to greet or flow with another tax collector. They don’t flow with those who are not in their circles. Hardly will they get along with people who are their enemies. As believers, are we also behaving like tax collectors? Do we always greet those who always greet us or do we greet those who don’t greet us? Greeting is a very important thing in our lives. Even though it seems something that most people don’t like doing especially when they are at loggerheads with one another, it is more than enough to flow with those who are your enemies.

One of the things that gets people together who are enemies, is greetings. Even though at first, the person who is your enemy will not respond when you greet the person, but as time goes on, it will coerce the person to flow with you. The more you keep mute as you pass your enemy by, the more difficult it will be for you to get along with the person. If you have anyone you have to greet more, it is not those who only love you but those who hate you. Many women have a big problem greeting those who hate them. If you want to serve God, you have to cultivate the habit of greeting those who don’t like you. This is one of the things that makes Christianity difficult, so to speak.

It is this difficulty that makes Christianity unique. This difficulty makes you do more than enough in this nation called Christianity. Many believers don’t like greeting at all especially when they are rich. They look down on people who are poor or those who are lowly in status. It is only proud people who fail to acknowledge the importance of greeting. You don’t know what can happen to you in the next minute. You can faint and the person you failed to greet might be the one who can help you. Greetings show a sign of respect. Greetings bring honour. Greetings especially the Greetings of Christianity, express well wishes. Consistent greetings can convert your enemies into your lovers.

In Israel the greeting they usually knew was Shalom, thus peace be unto you but when angel Gabriel visited Mary, he greeted her with another type of greeting: “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” Greeting depicted angel Gabriel as heavenly and not earthly. Your greeting shows your identity. It is very important you greet people especially those who hate, despise, and persecute you. It is normal that many enemies you greet, will not respond. But don’t leave it there. That is why you have to do more than enough. Continue with the greeting even if they don’t respond and one day those those who used to hate you, will begin to like you.

Lift up prayers for the grace to do more than enough for God and things that concern Him, making peace with those who are your enemies in the name of Jesus Christ.
