GIVING IN HYPOCRISY
David Abankwah
Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
-Matthew 6:2 | NKJV
Sounding a trumpet is a way of making an announcement for an event. We all know that when the second coming of Jesus Christ is due which many believers are not prepared for, there will be a trumpet sound by the Archangel reserved for such a task. So does that mean sounding such a trumpet for such a glorious event is hypocrisy? Certainly not! It is not the intention of Jesus Christ to make a public show of how good He is. Even on that day, it will be a bad day for sinners. Teaching on charity, Jesus Christ entreated us not to sound trumpets or announce our charity to people. He went on to tell us that, it is hypocrisy to do so, so that they may have glory from people.
Having glory from people because of charity done out of hypocrisy, has no reward from God. Many people think God’s reward takes time to come. Some say as His vengeance takes time to come, they don’t bother asking Him to avenge for them, but they will seek faster way of making such vengeance take place in no time. For such a reason, they usually avenge for themselves or even curse their enemies with idols whom they think they can do the job faster than God. God’s ways are not delaying. God is never slow. If God took six days to create the universe, and everything in it, both visible and invisible, then God is never slower. When His will of time is due, He will perform.
Instead of people waiting for the reward of God to come in due season, they think it will delay, so the best option for them is to get it quicker by seeking glory from men. They announce it on the media even before they do such charitable works. Some too announce it after they are done. There are some people when they give you a gift, they will definitely tell others. There was certain great man of God who once was blessed by a dress from his church member. As days went by, the Minister got to know that the person who gave him the dress was broadcasting it to others and he had to return the gift. Many people think when they give you something, they are doing you a favour.
Everything will pass away. Your car, dress, house, land, business, money, or any gift you bless people with, will perish. How good can your gift do more than eternal life? Instead of feeling humbled to have such a privilege to do it, don’t be proud! What do you even have that you didn’t receive from God? Let us stop being pompous and proud as of we own the whole universe. Mthew. Let’s stop being hypocrites whenever we do good. It will not end us anywhere. Having favour with men because of hypocrisy even bring about all kinds of contention, hatred, envy, jealousy, and worry. It is better not to announce any good we do unless we are led by the Spirit to do so appropriately in due season.

Lift up prayers for deliverance from the spirit of hypocrisy that influences you to give, mainly for seeking glory from men and not God in the name of Jesus Christ.
