PRAYING IN HYPOCRISY
David Abankwah

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
-Matthew 6:5 | NKJV

As much as there is hypocrisy in giving, there is also hypocrisy in praying. Praying and giving, are all acts of faith, and as believers, we have to take keen interest in these spiritual exercises if we only we want spiritual growth. If you give more, don’t pray less and if you pray more too, don’t give less. Prayer is not an antidote to the breakthrough of financial blessings. If you want money, there is a key in the Bible you have to get it and use to unlock the door of money. Giving, is that key. It is not recorded anywhere in the Bible that someone prayed and God rained down money from heaven for him. Even Jesus Christ, who being the Son of God, the Father didn’t rain money for Him.

He had to let Simon Peter work by casting a hook and line into the water to catch a fish. Fishing and cutting the fish to find the gold was even work Simon Peter had to do. If you want money, you have to work and stop being lazy. You can’t remain idle and say there is no work in the country. Stop blaming the government as if they are the cause of your financial problems. When you even get money, you spend it frivolously and worry God by praying to Him for another one. Prayers don’t rain down money. That is most reason many believers spend many times in the church which they should have been using for their secular working hours. There is time for everything. There is time to pray and there is time to work.

Stop using ministry as an excuse for your idleness. No wonder many people have been hypocritical in the ministry, doing something as if they are true Ministers but they are there for their stomachs. They appear religious but deep inside them they know they are faking. They pretend to pray more hours in the church just for you to know how religious they are so you can help them. They are not there for God, but they are there for money. Some believers also appear prayerful in the church. Many believers are prayerful stage performers in the church but in their closets, they are not. You are a hypocrite if you can pray in church and fail to pray when you are alone in your closet. Be real and stop being hot only when people are around.

There are so many people who go to church for many reasons: jobs, children, marriages, prosperity etc and not eternal life. They spend time praying for long hours in the church. If you don’t take care and you want to take such people seriously, you will be mistaken. Many people have married hypocrites whom they used to think they were prayerful when they met them in the church and would help them in their Christian walk, but did not find them as such after the marriage. Hypocrites have been employed from the church only to realise such people are thieves. It is only God who can tell you what is happening in someone else’s secret place: whether they are praying or they are snoring.

Lift up prayers for the grace to practise the habit of prayerful genuineness before people as you are to God in secret in the name of Jesus Christ.

One of the manifestations of praying amiss, is praying in hypocrisy
