QUIET TIME
David Abankwah
READ: 2 Kings 4:33

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
-Matthew 6:6 | NKJV

God is not a physical entity walking about like we do have bodies operating in the physical world. God is Spirit and He operates in the unseen world of spirituality. Spiritual beings are not seen by the naked eyes. If you want to interact with a spiritual being who is unseen, then, you also have to interact with the being in secret. God dwells in His secret place and it is those who seek Him diligently from there that can unlock His presence and power. This constant daily fellowship with God on your own through Bible reading and prayer is what is called QUIET TIME. Quiet time has been a tremendous help to me over the years. I have personally tasted the Lord and I know that He is so good.

Quiet time has enormous benefits to your life, Godliness, and ministry. 1. If you want to be spiritually matured in Christ, you can’t skip quiet time. The Word of God is food for the soul and everything you constantly read, study, and meditate on the Word and pray in your secret, your soul also grows. Growth is not only by height or by stature. Growth is also by cognitive maturity. 2. Quiet time helps you get closer to God. The more you get to closer to God, the more He also gets closer to you. Draw to Him and He will also draw to you (James 4:8). Nothing in this world is better than knowing someone who is great and God is the greatest. Getting closer to Him is a privilege not a right.

  1. Quiet time brings spiritual blessings and it is the soul that benefits. It is more benefit for the soul to get closer to God than the body does. The body is already judged and he will return to the dust. The soul, however, is eternal and he lives on eternally. After physical death there are two places, NEW JERUSALEM and LAKE OF FIRE. The soul who had his quiet time and developed a peaceful relationship with God while he lived on earth, is what will have eternal life in New Jerusalem whereas those who did not, will face the second (eternal) death in the lake of fire. 5. Having your quiet time, lightens your burden of sin. Because God is holy, His holiness rubs off on you when you develop relationship with Him.
  2. Anytime we have our quiet times with God, we obtain physical blessings from God. The body also benefits when we get closer to God in secret. We need God more than He needs us. Let us be frank. What do God need from us when we try to have daily relationship with Him? What benefit at all does He get from us more than we do? God does not benefit from your constant daily ‘worrying’ Him with your prayers when He is supposed to ‘rest.’ So don’t you think you are doing Him a favour. God is the One who loses His protection, material blessings, guidance, power, presence which attracts favour from people, etc to us when we develop constant relationship with Him in secret.
