CONDITION FOR DIVINE FORGIVENESS
David Abankwah
READ: Ephesians 4:32

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
-Matthew 6:14 | NKJV

In Matthew 6:14, there is a condition in the Constitution of God based on divine forgiveness. There is the word, ‘if,’ and that is the condition that, before God can forgive someone his or her sins, the person must first forgive those who have offended him or her. Because many believers want to be prosperous in everything they do which is not the main reason they were called, they often choose to step on anyone’s toes so far as their success is concerned, they care less. Many believers are unconcerned about forgiveness but that is one of the core mandates of Christianity. If you don’t forgive people who offend you, you can never be a Christian. Believers and Christians differ.

A Christian forgives and forgets, but a believer can forgive but he cannot forget or flow with the person like he used to, at first. A Christian loves his enemies but a believer loves his lovers and hates his enemies. If you cannot forgive and forget, you can never love your enemies. I tell you, people will step on your toes in your home, school, office, church, and in the society. Someone can insult you for no reason. People can get crazy in a jiffy and still come to normal as if nothing happened. They may not even realise what they did because circumstances happen and people, especially, those closer to you can blow up. Some are so arrogant that, they won’t even care to apologize.

In Christianity, we are ruled by theocracy and not democracy. If you bring democracy in Christianity you will go to hell. You can’t tell God you can’t forgive the person because his sins are too much, or the magnitude of his sins is too great to forgive. If you forgive, it is then that, God can also forgive you your sins and sanctify you from all other sins. It is when 1 John 1:9 can apply in your life. Many believers usually pray with 1 John 1:9 but they have issues with people they have not settled. Before you even give an offering, you first have to settle any offence between you and the one you have offended or the one who has offended you.

Without divine forgiveness, you can never have eternal life. It is because of eternal life that we are here on earth. If we eat, drink, go to school, work, church and whatever we do, we do because we need physical and spiritual strength to carry out the works of our salvation. We shouldn’t let our focus be shifted from the main call of eternal life and without forgiveness we will fall short and miss New Jerusalem. Maybe it has left you with just one thing for you to be a Christian, and that can be the forgiveness of your mother, father, sister, brother, auntie, nephew, niece, cousin, Pastor, church member, boss, or neighbour. God is counting on your forgiveness today. Forgive that somebody.
