CHRISTIANITY

READ: 1 Timothy 4:8

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
-Matthew 6:33 | NKJV

When the Israelites were expecting a Messiah, they thought the Messiah would be a military leader who would fight against the Roman Empire and save them from their hands. The Jews were accustomed to world superpowers and their crushing. They had experienced Messiahs like Moses leading them from Pharaoh, Judges, Kings and other laymen leading them into war for victory. Because they already had a kingdom – thus democratic system of governance, they thought the Messiah they had long expected, would also bring about the same kingdom but that was not so. Their deliverance was not from war but from sin and they had to be led into the autocratic kingdom of God.

Because of the view of the Israelites concerning the Messiah that He would fit into the missing piece of the jigsaw of the kingdom of democracy, they rejected Jesus Christ (John 1:11). If you are already accustomed to certain laid down dogmas in your church, traditions of men, philosophies of humanism, and other values/principles/customs of this world, you can never believe that Jesus Christ is not only the Son of God but He is the One and Only True Living God. He is the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit and it is His kingdom that has lasted from the beginning of creation till now. This autocratic kingdom of Jesus Christ is what is popularly known as Christianity.

This kingdom/Christianity is not a physical nation. It is spiritual because the One who established it is a Spirit (John 4:24). Every kingdom has a king and the people. To enter into this kingdom called Christianity, you and I have to be born again -John 3:5. To become a citizen, you and I need the Holy Spirit. You don’t become a citizen of a country which you were not born there, overnight. There are processes of seeking for paperwork to qualify you as a citizen. In Christianity, before you can get the Holy Spirit, you have to seek for Him by living in righteousness. Without the Holy Spirit, you can’t serve the King (Jesus Christ) well and you can’t also be a true worshipper – John 4:23.

When the Holy Spirit comes into you, He comes with laid down rules of conduct known as the Word of God. This Word of God is the constitution of the kingdom of heaven. The Holy Spirit also gives power to obey the Word of God and this leads to righteousness. Seeking after the leadership of the Holy Spirit (Kingdom of God) and obeying His Word (righteousness) is what makes you a citizen of Christianity. When you become a Christian, it is not the time for seeking after things that are sought after the kingdom of this world. Our focus should be shifted from seeking after prosperity, marriage, children, job, money, and what have you. If the Holy Spirit is what you seek after, you are blessed.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for the undivided attention of seeking after the Holy Spirit and His fellowship so you can serve God in truth and in Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.
