JUDGE NOT
David Abankwah
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
-Matthew 7:1 | NKJV
Judgement is the formation of an opinion about someone or something through careful weighing of evidence and testing of premises. Judgement is the determination or the pronouncement of a decision after inquiry and deliberation. Judgement is also the formation of an estimate or evaluation of someone or something. Under the context of Matthew 7:1, the third definition of judgement doesn’t hold. You can’t form an estimate about someone’s life as a Christian if you have not inquired the truth about the person or something important under discussion. We are entreated to let our yes be yes and our no be no. We can’t make decisions we have no concrete evidence of.
Before you pass a judgment, your evidence must be the truth and not a fact. Carnal people see a fact as the truth but only God is the Truth. We can see things to be the ‘truth,’ because we are limited. It is only God, His Word and His Spirit who knows the Truth of every matter. We are limited because we can only judge physical things but before physical things can manifest, they had already happened before in the spirit. We are also limited concerning things that are past, present and the future. We don’t know it all for we only know in part. It is only the Spirit of God who can declare to us things in full. ‘Judge not’ is judgement based on human logical way. Logic/common sense is limited.
Your logic/common sense can be a fact and not the truth. Judgement is based on truth and not fact. Any judgement that is not based on the Word of God is invalid. The one whose judgement is valid is someone who has the Word of God/the Holy Spirit living in him or her. Judge not is applicable to those who lack the Truth abiding in them. John the Baptist was a human being yet, he passed out judgement in his preaching. John the Baptist was a human being but he was not just ordinary. Right from his mother’s womb, he was possessed with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:15). It is only those filled with the Holy Spirit who can judge everyone including even angels (1 Corinthians 6:3).
Angels can be heavenly beings, a messenger or a minister of God. Angels don’t submit themselves to beings that are lesser than them. Angels don’t worship human beings. Angels only worship God. Angels can only submit to you if the Holy Spirit is living in you. If we are to judge even angels that makes judgement a serious business. Today when the Holy Spirit is living in someone and he or she preaches against sin or rebukes someone in sin, then the person says the Minister shouldn’t judge him or her. If you even submit to carnal judges in court, why can’t you submit to Judges in the church? We shouldn’t be biased in judgement, because we will be judged too by God.
