SPECK AND PLANK
David Abankwah

And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
-Matthew 7:3 | NKJV

A speck is a small discoloration or spot especially from stain or decay; a very small amount: BIT; something marked or marred with specks. A plank is a heavy thick board which is 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 centimeters) thick and at least, 8 inches (20 centimeters) wide. Matthew 7:3 buttresses on the truth that Ministers of God who preach and teach as a means of judgement must be blameless. If there is any spot or guilt on you as a Minister of God, you have to repent and convert from that, otherwise your judgement is invalid. If you only focus on preaching and teaching others and fail to repent and convert yourself, you will be a signboard and you will end up in the lake of fire.

After preaching and teaching which is judgement, the vessel used should also be judged by the twenty-four elders. If you preached or taught about fornication, a test of fornication should come. It is then that you have to prove that you are a righteous judge. Righteousness is not proved when there is absence of sin. It is because of the presence of sin that the blood of Jesus Christ becomes relevant. It is not because of how you want to live your life as a righteous person that the devil should stop championing the course of sin. It is the work of the righteous person to overcome the temptations of the devil as a foolproof that he has indeed repented and converted as a Christian.

Many believers and Christians have issues of sin they have to deal with. Some are suffering from the weight of fornication, drunkenness, smoking, homosexuality, envy, hatred, blasphemy, lust, idolatry, adultery, strife, wild partying, covetousness, lovers of the world, disrespect, and what have you, so they can be blameless, they rather have interest in the faults of others. There are so many Pastors who prepare messages for the congregation but they think they are above the Word of God. They preach and teach for people to be saved but they are rather unsaved. They know they are blind Shepherds, yet, they are bold to preach and teach, as if they are righteous.

If you have any person to preach or teach, you must first preach or teach yourself. As much as you have keen interest in the salvation of others, do well to have time for your soul too. As you preach or teach, you must do as you say as James 2:12 puts it; SO SPEAK AND SO DO as those who will be judged by the law of liberty – James 2:12 NKJV. Many Ministers are experts in destructive criticisms and pointing fingers at their members who are struggling with sin but they have the same problem as Ministers. First remove the plank in your own eye before attempting to remove the speck in someone’s eye. When a Minister of God even fails to rule his own house, how can he rule the sheep of God? (1 Timothy 3:5).
