SAVING SELF AND OTHERS
David Abankwah

Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?
-Matthew 7:4 | NKJV

Paul advised the church in Philippi to work their own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). Many of the church members used to be serious when Paul was around. Instead of saving themselves, they were rather looking at someone else to better their lives. If there is any better person to work out salvation for you, it is not your Pastor who can do it for you. Your Pastor can’t repent for you. Even to be saved, it is a free will based on your personal decision (Romans 10:9-10). God doesn’t force Himself on us to accept His offer of salvation. Don’t work out your salvation based on what others work out theirs. The sin you are facing squarely, is not the same for others.

Judas Iscariot was among the twelve who went out on the mission of salvation for others. Instead of Judas Iscariot preaching or teaching himself that he should stop stealing, or asking Jesus Christ for help, he was rather interested in saving others. If you have any person to save, save yourself first. It is when you are saved that you can be free to save others. A prisoner cannot bail another prisoner. It is a free man who can bail a prisoner. Ponder on this very well. The reason many Ministers are struggling to stop sin is that, instead of having time for their souls, they often think that he or she has to go for evangelism and soul winning. The best soul to win is your own soul and not someone’s.

Every soul is a soul and it is precious for the Lord but your soul is more precious than someone else. It is wisdom to save yourself than to save others. Don’t try to straighten up to crooked ways of sinners while you are also a sinner. The person you are trying to save may have just a speck of sin but you may have a plank that you have to deal with. First remove the plank in your eye so you can get the full vision of how to save others from going blind in the spirit. Jesus Christ is the eye of every Christian because the eye of a human is his light, and Jesus Christ is the light of the world. Anytime you are blind in the spirit, it means you don’t know God and you can’t lead others if you are blind.

Apostle Paul advised his son Timothy, whom he begat in the Lord to concentrate on his salvation and stop worrying himself with baseless fables that would not yield any significant impact of salvation in his Godliness (1 Timothy 4:7). Paul went on to advise Timothy to save himself first before trying to save others in his ministry (1 Timothy 4:16). It is not wrong to care for the salvation of others but ask yourself that, have I stopped sinning? If you haven’t, then it is better to put a halt to the work of salvation that you devote yourself for others and focus on self. If you need deliverance from a fellow Minister of God, please get help. If you have to fast and pray, then do.

Lift up prayers to be more considerate to the working of your own salvation than others so you can first save yourself and those who hear you in the name of Jesus Christ.
