JESUS CHRIST – THE BEST GIFT
David Abankwah
READ: Luke 11:11
Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
-Matthew 7:9 | NKJV
What you have, is what you give and the extreme you can go, depends on your level of generosity. In Matthew 7:9, we saw Jesus Christ – Our King, Redeemer, Saviour and God, telling us about a certain request a son asked of a father. The son asked of the Father a request of bread. A good son will never be turned away of something he wants and need, unless an evil son. Even though a son is a son, certain requests cannot be granted for evil children when they ask. Even asking from the Father becomes a difficult thing to do because your own conscience will judge you wrongly. No one can say he or she doesn’t know Jesus Christ as His Father, because we all bear His name in our DNA.
Even though we know Him, many people have made up their minds not to give Him the glory He deserves by serving Him in truth and in spirit, but they give other things their honour. An evil son who doesn’t recognise Jesus Christ will grow and become an evil father, and what gift or inheritance can he leave his children’s children? A good son who has been trained in the Lord lives to give Jesus Christ as His inheritance to His children’s children. There is no better gift than the gift of Christ. The bread in Matthew 7:9 that the son was requesting is Jesus Christ because He is the bread of life. Because the father had been trained in the Lord, that is the best gift he can grant his children.
For those who are evil fathers, will rather give stones. Stones stand for people, carnal things, and things that do not have life in them. No one can eat stones and become healthy or have life, but we eat bread to get energy or to have life in us. People are stones and they have no life in them that they can give you. No wonder sometimes the people you love most, hurt you most. You get broken hearted at ease but when you have Jesus Christ as your inheritance or as your bread of life, He will never fail you. People are stones because they are unreliable. You can take stones and throw them anywhere you want. Your feet can hit them and they will get offended. They can not talk to you again.
Your feet can hit them and change their location. The people you rely on for help, can be alive on earth today, but they can be dead tomorrow. The people you trust most, can fail you. But that is not the case when you have Jesus Christ in your life. He is the living God. When you have Him in you, you will never die spiritually. When you have Jesus Christ, don’t feel shy giving Him to others. People get closer to us not by how wealthy we are materially, but how wealthy we are Christly. Let us try as much as possible as believers to give the best gift we have who is Jesus Christ to others. One day, when all is said and done, they will never regret having the best gift in their lives.
