THE DAVIDIC DEVOTIONAL

Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
-Matthew 7:12 | NKJV

EXPECTATION IS RECIPROCAL
David Abankwah
READ: Luke 6:31

It is the expectation of every parent that the child he or she is catering for his or her education, will one day become a respectable person in society. For some parents who are not financially sound, can go length and breath to sell their properties to help materialise the future of their children. It is the expectation of every entrepreneur that his business will reach the pinnacle of success. It is also the expectation of every sound-minded woman that one day she will get married to a man. Everything she has to do for that expectation to come to pass, she will do but few have that passion to maintain that blessing. Expectation can make people go the extreme mile to make the dream a reality.

In Godliness, life, and ministry, there are many expectations. Without God bringing vessels to make your expectations a reality, you can’t achieve it on your own. Sometimes we want to be our own ‘bosses’ and for that reason we find it hard submitting ourselves under others. If you are a believer, you have to understand the principle that greatness is all about service. If you don’t serve the expectations of others, others cannot serve the expectations of yours. You want to be great but you don’t want to serve others. You always want to receive but you don’t want to give. Having such a mentality will always make you a beggar. Receiving does not always increases, but decreases.

Jesus Christ knew the principle that expectation is reciprocal. He knew that, as He expected the world to love Him, He first had to apply the principle of love first when the world was living in sin. You can’t expect something you have not first given. Many people of this age don’t want to sow anything but they want to harvest something. Many believers expect God to walk with them but they don’t want God to expect holiness from them because they think no one is perfect. Don’t always think it is you alone who needs or wants something from others. Others also expect certain things from you. The question is, do you meet the expectation of others as you expect them to meet yours?

In Christianity, giving is not losing but receiving. In the economy of Christianity, saving is losing but losing is saving. If you want to save your life too, you will lose it but when you lose it you will receive (Matthew 16:25). This goes contrary to the kingdom of the world. Because the kingdom of the world has ruled many of us for long, we sometimes think that, the more we save, the more we abound (Luke 12:15). For that reason we don’t seek to meet the expectations of others at all and this makes us adopt the habit of selfish ambition. It is not the pulling down of people that can bring about your promotion. The more you humble yourself to serve, the more God will elevate you.

Lift up prayers for the willingness and diligence to do what God and men expects from you as you expect from them in the name of Jesus Christ.
