A good tree CANNOT bear bad fruit, NOR CAN a bad tree bear good fruit.
-Matthew 7:18 | NKJV

When three different citrus fruits such as tangerine, orange, and lemon are planted, and they all shoot up, they all look the same. You can’t tell much difference between an orange, a tangerine, and a lemon tree because all their trees look alike. That is what it is when everyone says he or she is a Christian just because we all go to church every Sunday or every Saturday. Someone who doesn’t go to church or a sinner or a religionist cannot tell the difference between a believer, a church goer and a Christian. This is because, we we are representatives of these three trees. We all have the appearance of lemon, tangerine and orange tree and it is virtually impossible to differentiate.

Also, the leaves of these three trees are alike. The leaves are the gifts God gives to us because He is the vine and we are the branches. It is on the branches that leaves are on. Anyone who accepts Jesus Christ into His life and start working out his faith with works and is baptised by the Holy Spirit is entitled to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But these gifts are just leaves. It is not the leaves that God is looking for, but the fruits. God is not a vegetarian to have interest in greens. From the onset of creation, He made it clearer to us that we need to be fruit-ful and not leaf-ful. But unfortunately, many of us are producing good leaves because we are using our gifts but we are not producing good fruits.

The only difference you can tell between an orange, a tangerine and a lemon is the fruit they bear. If we say we are Christians, the world doesn’t need to know the riches we have, the cars we have, the beautiful and handsome women and men we are marrying, where we work, the children we have, how famous we are and how gifted we are, but they need to know the fruit of holiness that we are bearing as good trees. It is impossible for an orange tree to bear a tangerine fruit and it is impossible for a lemon tree to bear the fruit of an orange. Likewise, it is impossible for a sinner to bear the fruit of holiness. You can flourish in your gifts, but you are just bearing leaves.

God is not much interested when I preach. God is not interested when you sing. God is not interested when you win souls and not your own soul. God is not interested when signs and wonders follow you. God is not interested when you are single. God is not interested when you heal the sick and raise the dead. God is not interested when you can fast all day and pray all night. These are all leaves in His presence. What He is seeking is the good fruit of love that yields joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It is only the fruit of love that can differentiate us from sinners who are bad trees. Without love, we are just the same trees.

Lift up prayers for the divine attention concerning fruit bearing more than leaf bearing so you can work out your own works of holiness in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
There are many leaves of the Holy Spirit which are His gifts but only one fruit. This good fruit is called love
