THE WILL OF GOD
David Abankwah
READ: 1 Timothy 2:4
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the WILL OF MY FATHER in heaven.
-Matthew 7:21 | NKJV
Jesus Christ is aware that a lot of people knows His name. He is also much aware that His name carries power. When something bad is about to happen, people normally mention His name for things to come to pass. There was once a story I heard concerning a fetish priest who mentioned the name Jesus Christ when a car he had boarded was about to have an accident. When the car was saved and stopped at a distance, they asked him why didn’t he mention the name of his gods? He answered that, ‘As a fetish priest I am aware that the name Jesus Christ carries power and it was only this name that could save me and that was what I had to do when I saw that I was at the dead end.’
Many believers also know the name of Jesus Christ. They pray in His name for material things. Many Ministers also use the name to perform signs and wonders. Others evangelise in His name. Others seek His name for breakthroughs. The mentioning of the name of Jesus Christ is not what God is interested in, because He knows that many people mention it without knowing Him. Mentioning Lord Lord is an exercise of faith but faith alone is not enough for God. He wants us to apply works. Faith without works as we already know, is dead. As we mention the name of Jesus Christ, we should also work out our own salvation so we can be saved in the day of judgement.
One day we will all stand before the judgement seat of Jesus Christ and we will account for the works done in our bodies. God is not interested that I always sent devotionals. He is interested in my righteousness, holiness, and sanctification. He is aware that people will justify themselves that they had worked for God. They had saved souls to the glory of His name. They had prayed for the sick for healing with His name. They had sang songs to praise His name. What God expects to see from us in the day of judgement is that, we appear before Him in holiness having done the will of God. The totality of the will of God is also centred on righteousness, holiness, and sanctification.
The will of God is that we should come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). The will of God is that we should be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). The will of God is that we should be delivered from sin (Galatians 1:4). The will of God is that we abstain or sanctify ourselves from the world and its pleasures (1 Thessalonians 4:3). The will of God is to do good and to put to silence the ignorance of foolish people (1 Peter 2:15). We should not pride ourselves that we are ‘Christians,’ thinking we know God more than anyone else, but fail to come to the knowledge of the truth and practise it; allow ourselves to be delivered from sin; sanctify ourselves from the world, and do good.

Lift up prayers for the grace to come to the knowledge of all the truth of God and the strength to work out your salvation with fear and trembling so you can be saved in the name of Jesus Christ.
