BECOMING MORE CHRISTLIKE
David Abankwah
READ: Romans 8:29

Before we can become Christlike, we first have to present ourselves as living sacrifices onto God. For God so loved the world that He gave His Son. Jesus Christ became a living sacrifice for us as God gave Him out as an atonement for our sins. He was not of Himself but of the Father. Everything He ever did was according to the precepts and patterns of what the Father had shown Him. If we think our lives are our own and we don’t entrust them into the hands of God, we can never become more Christlike. In everything we do, we must dedicate ourselves and inquire from God whatever we have to do. Jesus Christ always inquired from the Father the night before He went out to do ministry.

Don’t bypass God to do anything you have to do if you want to be more Christlike. Becoming more Christlike should be the desire of every believer, and it is encouraging to know that God has the same desire for us. There are three main things we have to note that contributes to our being more Christlike. First of all, before we can be Christlike, we have to surrender to God. What does this mean? We have to dedicate out total self or ego to God. We have to volunteer our bodies as living sacrifices onto righteousness. Our minds have to be renewed and transformed. Our hearts have to be renewed and transformed. Our souls need to be sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ ready for the Spirit of God to lead us into holiness.

The reason many people can’t surrender onto God is because they are controlled by an evil spirit. It is that evil spirit that controls your soul preventing you from becoming a living sacrifice to God. Until you are delivered, you can never have the liberty to serve God well. The second contributing factor of becoming more Christlike is to have freedom from sin. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life because He was not a slave to sin. Until we are dead to sin, we can never be righteous, holy, and sanctified. Many believers are struggling to live their lives in purity but the more they try the more they fail. As Paul said the good I want to do I can’t but the evil I don’t want to do is what I do, then it is not me who is doing it but the sin living in me.

If the nature (seed) of sin is living in you, you will surely produce the fruits thereof. You first have to be set free from the slavery of sin by the blood of Jesus Christ. Third to be more Christlike, you have to be matured. Spiritual maturity is key for you being more Christlike. When we are first saved, we are unmatured in wisdom and inexperienced in grace and love. As spiritual babes of being 30% Christians, we have to grow in the Lord to meet His yardstick of 100%. It is not enough to be where you are in Christianity. You will be very worried as a parent if you have done everything you have to do for your child to grow but he or she cannot. Our maturity must be the fullness of Jesus Christ.

Lift up prayers for the spiritual desire of becoming more Christlike than any other physical need and the grace of meeting that target in the name of Jesus Christ.
