THE CENTURION AND HIS GREAT FAITH
David Abankwah
READ: Luke 7:9
When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such GREAT FAITH, not even in Israel!
-Matthew 8:10 | NKJV
After Jesus Christ finished healing the leper who came and worshipped Him, He headed towards Capernaum. A certain centurion came to Jesus Christ and pleaded with Him that his servant was lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented. On the normal terms, everyone would have expected Jesus Christ to come and heal the patient as the presence of a physician, will even make the patient feel better. Even for Peter, when his mother-in-law was sick, he had to invite Jesus Christ home for Him to heal her. But this centurion (a Roman officer commanding or having 100 unit of army under him, which was a subdivision of the Roman Legion) wasn’t expecting Jesus Christ into his home.
Before the great faith of the centurion had to be expressed, he had already developed his faith at work. This is because, great faith doesn’t fall from the sky. Great faith cannot grow without nurturing it. Great faith cannot be without making it a habit. Great faith is worked out as a daily confession. Great faith cannot be without making it your character. Great faith cannot be without making it your destiny. As a centurion, he had developed his faith to a certain level in military that was never seen in Israel. His instruction as ‘obey before complain,’ had led him to such a great faith. He was always commanding, and yet, no soldier who was his subordinate dared complained before obeying.
This brings us to this important aspect of life that the work you do can either diminish your faith or increase it. How can your faith grow if you work for an alcoholic company? How can you have a great faith if you abort babies as a medical personnel? How can you increase your faith if you have to lie and deceive the public about a product you know you have not used before or a product that you know it is not what it is? You were once a very good Christian having great faith when you were jobless, but now you are working, you see you have backslided? Gradually, you are losing faith in God. It is now time to rekindle the fire of faith. You can’t afford to lose faith in this end time.
Even though He came to Jesus Christ to inform Him about the situation, he was rather expecting a word from Jesus Christ and not an invitation into his home. The centurion saw Jesus Christ as an important personality more than him. He also submitted his will under the will of God. He expressed his great faith boldly infront of the crowd saying he said to one soldier do this and he does it and to another that and he does that. His great faith marvelled Jesus Christ. Even though the centurion was a Gentile, his great faith was never seen in Israel. God wants us to have great faith in Him even in our deepest fear. It is our great faith in God that will make us pleasers in His sight.

Lift up prayers for diligence to develop your faith to the level God wants you, so nothing else can separate you from the love of God in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
Having great faith in God is not the exhibition of pride but the expression of the highest level of hope in Him
