PASSOVER
David Abankwah
(SERIES: Day 1)
And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.
-Exodus 12:11 | NKJV
Jacob and the twelve tribes of Israel dwelt and died in the land of Egypt but God didn’t send a Saviour because they were not in need of one. They were not slaves in the land of Egypt because of the identity Joseph had. The status quo ante of Joseph as the Prime Minister of Egypt liberated Jacob and the eleven tribes of Israel from slavery. After the death of the Pharaoh who through Joseph, his dream was interpreted, died, the next king who reigned, took the descendants of the progenitors as slaves. Though it looked like a normal exile, it was a prophecy God pronounced to Abraham in Genesis 15:13-14.
¹³Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. ¹⁴And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions – Genesis 15:13-14 NKJV. True to God’s prophecy, the Israelites were in exile for four hundred years and were in hard labour all these years. Sometimes the magnitude of their labour was doubled whenever they tried to set themselves free from their slavery.
Brethren, knowing God’s time is important for your liberty. The fact that you are going through times of slavery, doesn’t mean God has rejected you. It is His strength that has kept you this far. Without Him in your life, you could have denied Him in your time of crises. Walking with God has its tougher and easier times. God is not a one-way God. He is not only a prosperity-based God. He is not only a blessing-oriented God. He is not only an easy-going God. He is not take-home free God, and He is not a Father Christmas. Nothing comes free in this world. Even eternal life has a price you must pay for it.
Do you think God had it easier when He wanted to deliver stiff-necked Israelites from the hands of Egyptians? Do you think He had it easier when He waited for 400 years? Do you think it was easier to call Moses who was a murderer and fugitive at the same time? Look at how God had to convince Moses so many times before he could obey His calling of spearheading Israel’s deliverance. When Moses responded to his calling, He was led by God into the land of Egypt where he fleed from some time ago. Moses constantly allowed God to have His way until the day of Passover when deliverance came.
