LOVE DETERMINANTS

(SERIES: Day 6)

Doth not behave itself unseemly…..
-1 Corinthians 13:5 | KJV

For us to understand the word unseemly properly as King James Version of the Bible puts it, I had to go through some of the versions of the Bible to get an understanding of what this word meant and these were what I found. To behave oneself unseemly is to dishonour others (NIV); to be rude (CEB, CEV, CEVDCI, AMP); to act unbecomingly (NASB); to act improperly (FBVNTPSALMS); to be ill-mannered, selfish or irritable (GNBDC); behaving inappropriately (WEB); forcing oneself on others (MSG); conceited and unmannerly (APMC), and what have you. When you have love for someone, you don’t develop rudeness towards the person. Beauty is not a license to rudeness.

The reason there are laws in every endeavour one finds himself in is that, laws settle differences between people and make them stay together in harmony. You see, we all have different motives, agendas, aspirations or goals, sets of values, behavioural patterns, beliefs and all that, but for us to live together, we have to merge all our differences together and have rules and regulations that will guide our lives and things that concern us. This is where love sets in and love is the foundation of all laws. When people go wayward or behave outside these set of established rules and regulations, they become unseemly. Unseemly is therefore disobedience!

Mutualism is all about a certain concern of need. The laws we break, don’t affect us only, but others. When you throw rubbish in the gutter, it may not cause a flood in your vicinity but other innocent souls who didn’t know about your inappropriate attitude. Ill-mannered, conceitedness, rudeness, and all other meaning of the word unseemly, all points out to one meaning: Not having or showing concern or respect for the rights and feelings of other people. How can you say you love someone, when you don’t have any concern or any respect for the person? Sarah was a very beautiful woman but she was not rude towards father Abraham. She called him lord because she was down to earth.

How can you say you are in love with someone when you don’t call, send text messages, visit or help the person when he or she is in need? Today many believers lack love and still call themselves Christians. Many people think they are serving God, but they are rude towards one another. If you are not rude, why do you obey some portions of the Bible and leave some? Many people are still single because of rudeness. Their body language of rudeness is enough to make them lose begging chances or opportunities of marriage. When you don’t help people when you have the means to help or care about their feelings even though you are aware, you are also a rude person.

•| Prayer Diary |•
¹Lift up prayers for the power to overcome every nature of unseemly behaviour you portray even in the house of the Lord. ²Lift up prayers for the power to overcome rudeness, unbecomingly actions, improper actions, ill-mannered actions, selfishness, irritable behaviours, inappropriate behaviours, forcing yourself on God and others, conceitedness or unmannerly behaviour towards God and others. ³Lift up prayers for the power of God to refine your soul from any crudeness of sin, iniquity, abomination, and transgression so you can be graceful in civility towards others in life and in ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
“Civility is part of love. Rude people will always have a problem with love and not lust”
