LOVE DETERMINANTS

SERIES: Day 7

….does not seek its own…..
-1 Corinthians 13:5 | NKJV

I hardly had friends who could look at me in the eye and face me squarely or tell me the truth candidly without hypocrisy until I met two friends in senior high school whom I thought were difficult to deal with. You see, the more egoistic one becomes, the more truth becomes bitter for one to accept and to obey it. I thought they didn’t like me anytime they rebuked me when I was wrong. One of them set me aside one day and told me: ‘David you know something? Studying you for a while, I can see you are a very selfish person. Look at your other friend. He is not like you. He is not self-centred. He thinks more about others but as for you, you are always thinking about yourself.’ Initially I was pissed off.

But I knew deep within me that what he was saying was the truth. I always remember this rebuke which happened under a tree just some walks away from the administration block. At first, I didn’t like what he was saying but I had no option than to listen. I knew within me that what he was saying was so true. If I had the mind to think about others, it was only 10%. It was like, I gave a tithe of my care to others and I took 90% for myself. I had difficulty in loving people the way I was supposed to, because of selfishness. I believe many of us are still having the same problem with selfishness even though they are believers now. Faith is a theory, but works are the practicals. Be selfless and not selfish.

I know you have to save and build. I know you have to gather funds to continue your schooling. I know you have to work hard to build and finish certain projects. I know you want this or that, but for the sake of your salvation, think about others too. You didn’t get to where you are by accident. You had parents, guardians, helpers, friends, and others who helped you with the little they had to push you to where you are today. Don’t be selfish! Remember them and assist them with the physical and spiritual blessing you have today. Even if they don’t need your help, offer what you have, out of gratefulness. It is not everybody who WANTS something but everybody NEEDS something.

Everyone needs salvation! If you have love, you will take it upon yourself to be a vessel of the ministry of reconciliation towards others (Matthew 28:19-20). You can take it upon yourself to help the poor, orphans, the physically challenged, brilliant students who need help with sponsorship, and the rest. Don’t only think about your children and treat other children as pieces of rag. You have money but when you pass by beggars, you don’t bless them with your substance but you still blame God for not providing you with customers nowadays. It is because you are selfish that is why. Think about others and you will succeed. If you think about others, God will also think for you.

•| Prayer Diary |•
¹Lift up prayers for the will of God to be done in your life and ministry instead of your self-will. ²Lift up prayers to be more concerned about the salvation of lost souls and the necessities of the life of Authoritarians, church, family, friends, loved ones and enemies. ³Lift up prayers for the happiness of sharing the successes or advantages others have over you in the name of Jesus Christ.
