LOVE DETERMINANTS
David Abankwah
(SERIES: Day 12)

bears all things…..
-1 Corinthians 13:7 | NKJV

Love has its own burdens. Because many people have different responses to the reactions of love or how they think you love them the way they want it, sacrifices differ from one person to the other. Someone may think that, if you sacrifice your time for me, that means you love me. Another person may think that, if you give me gifts, that means you love me. Another person will tell you that, if you do some acts of services for me, that means you are showing your love towards me. Another person will also tell you that you can prove your love to me if only you can communicate with me more often. Bearing sacrifice is one of the love languages which differ as far as individuals are concerned.

You will discover that sacrifice which is one of the determinants of love is centred on one thing: Giving. Whether you give your time, your body, engage in acts of services, communication, or what have you, you are fulfilling the sacrificial aspect of love. When God loved us, He gave us His one and only Son. Do you think giving your one and only son to be killed is easier? Abraham had to deliberate on giving Isaac because that was the only legitimate son he had. God had no other Son at that time, and I believe it was a painful thing to do, yet He had to do it. To bear means carrying, and carrying means sacrifice because there is no carrying without pain and there is no pain without sacrifice.

Because of the love, I have for God, I have to bear so many things in life. From my childhood time when I met the Lord, I have made a lot of sacrifices and these sacrifices have given me power because sacrifice releases power. I remember one time, I had to sacrifice my vacation classes for Bible school training sessions. I was the youngest among them, yet, I needed to bear the call of God in love. I had to sacrifice my time, comfort zone, education, and all that to follow Jesus Christ. Sometimes I had no money and I had to walk miles to the auditorium to be trained. At the age of 10 years, I had my first Bible school certificate and I don’t ever regret walking in God’s love.

I expected that the bearing of the love of God was going to be easier, but as I grew, I realised that, it become keener depending on the level of maturity one is. The love of God is going to cost you big time. Abraham was asked to sacrifice His Isaac but for you, your Isaac may be different. What is so dear to you; that evil job you can’t quit; what is so precious to you; that one thing or one person you can’t live without is what God will ask you to sacrifice. Will you be able to bear the sacrifice of love or will you disappoint God like the rich man who went away just because he wasn’t ready to sacrifice all he had to follow Jesus Christ? Are you determined to bear His love onto the very end?

¹Lift up prayers not to be ashamed of the name ‘Christian’ but to be proud of it. ²Lift up prayers for the spiritual womb to bear the Word of God so you can bring forth the lifestyles of righteousness, holiness and sanctification. ³Lift up prayers for the power to handle unpleasant situations or crisis you have to go through for the sake of your salvation and that of others. ⁴Lift up prayers for spiritual growth anytime you bear the burden of salvation issues of both believers and unbelievers in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
“Because Jesus Christ loved us, He was able to bear the cross and died for us. Love is all about bearing sacrifices”
