NAMES
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 1

Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.
-Genesis 2:19 | NKJV

A name is a word or phrase that constitutes the distinctive designation of a person or thing. A name is often used as a symbol to designate an entity or a description often disparaging epithet. A name given to someone or something is the genesis of the person’s reputation. Names often goes against reality because names are not physical but spiritual. It is the soul that is named and not the body. Even if a place is named, it has bearing in the spiritual sense because the work itself is not only physical but spiritual. And before something will happen in the physical, it had already taken place in the physical. God is able to see into the future because He is Spirit.

God knows our beginnings and He knows our end. That is why He is the Alpha and then the Omega. Alpha is a first letter and Omega is the last alphabet and it is these that forms a name. Wrong placement of an alphabet can give a person a beautiful beginning, but a bitter ending. A right placement of an alphabet can give a person a bitter beginning but a better ending. Many people just name their children based on the behaviour of others. It is so wrong. The fact that Solomon in the Bible doesn’t mean that when you name your male child Solomon, he will also be wise. You can be named as Solomon and yet be the most foolish person the world has ever seen.

It is the meaning of the name that matters and not what the person you are naming after did. Delilah was a trickster but the name has a beautiful meaning. Because Delilah was a trickster many believers don’t name their female children as Delilah thinking others will ridicule their children for having such a name. I mean who cares about your name? It is the impact of the name that we are looking for and not what others think about it. Stop checking the profile of people who have certain names and concentrate on the meaning of the names. It is the arrangement of the alphabets of a name that depicts the meaning. Don’t name your child just because of someone’s good profile.

The fact that Paul in the Bible became a great Apostle doesn’t mean all Pauls are going to be Apostles. God has different purposes for everyone. The will of God is independent on names because God deals with individuals. The fact that you are called Paul doesn’t mean you have an Apostolic call. The fact you are called Reuben doesn’t mean you are going to have an affair with your father’s wife. The fact that you are called Joseph doesn’t mean you are going to flee sexual lusts. One John became a Baptist and another became a Revelator but they were all called John. If the latter thought he was called John so his life should be like the former, he may have ruined his ministry.

Lift up prayers for the divine intuition to name things as directed by the will of God and not by your will in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
A name that cannot be changed is the name that was given by the perfect will of God.
