RESTITUTION
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 3
I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.
-John 14:30 | NKJV
Jesus Christ made mention of restitution in John 14:30. Though it seems quite unclear when one reads it, but upon further meditation into the verse, you will realise that anytime you make restitution, you are getting rid of things that make you sinful. Sin is disobedience to God and failure to do things that are right. Sin is the channel through which Satan and other evil spirits pass through to possess you. Sin is Satan’s spiritual licensing avenue, that makes him authorized to claim the ownership of the images of God who are not His likeness. If you don’t let go off sin, abomination, transgression, and iniquity as Satan’s properties you possess, you can never be a Christian.
Jesus Christ was not a sinner as God with us. He was not possessing any property of sin that could have made Him an asset of Satan. In that case, Satan could not have any legal backing to claim Him as his. Anytime you sin, you are calling on Satan to possess you and to be the Master of your life. You can only return Satan’s properties to him through restitution. Restitution which is one of the initiation processes of Christianity, can be done when you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, thus verbal restitution, thereby denouncing Satan as your Master. This gives Jesus Christ the spiritual permit to have you as His. That is what makes verbal restitution or confession so powerful.
Without verbal restitution, you can never be a Christian. Also, any sin you have committed against people, you ought to confess your sins to them and ask of their forgiveness. For your repentance to be accepted by God, you have to confess your sins one onto another (James 5:16; 1 John 1:9; Proverbs 28:13). Don’t say after all God has forgiven me, so why should I have to confess my sins to people I have offended? There are many believers who before they met Jesus Christ, were having issues, bitterness, hatred, and grudges with people that created broken relationships. You have to make verbal restitution to them and settle your differences amicably. Live at peace with all men.
If you are into any romantic relationship which you know is not leading to marriage but rather fornication, better make verbal restitution to him or her that it is over! Remove your sim card and break it. Return everything that you obtained through relationship you had with the person. Don’t value the person’s gifts more than your salvation. You claim you have repented, but you still have your former sex partner’s possessions. The converts of Ephesus had to make restitution, by bringing their books of occultism and strange worship together to be burnt (Acts 19:19). If you have repented truly, there must be a radical change or evidence to prove so.
Faith without works, is dead!

¹Lift up prayers for the mindfulness concerning the things you say, so you will not be guilty of undertaking unruly restitutions. ²Lift up prayers to carry out any verbal restitution you have to undertake so you will not be condemned for the things you have said in the day of judgement in the name of Jesus Christ.
