LIKE A CHILD
David Abankwah
READ: Luke 18:16

And said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
-Matthew 18:3 | NKJV

The born again process of living and not only a state, involves total conversion and living as a child, presenting yourself in total submission to God’s word. You have to be converted into a child for acts of humility. No one who will do this
conversion for you. It is a deliberate willingness of metamorphosis that one has to work on himself to become. When a child wants to grow into an adult, the child has to feed on the balanced diet that will make him grow. Likewise, when an adult wants to become a child in Christianity, the person has to be born again through water and Spirit (John 3:4-7) and feed on the Word of God who is the spiritual food and allow Him to control your life.

It is more of the Word of God that makes one progress from adulthood into childhood. It looks like retrogressing to the logical mind but the spiritual mind sees you progressing. As the flesh needs to be fed with the physical diet, the soul of man also needs to be fed with the Word of God. It is obedience to the Word of God, that leads to this spiritual conversion. The flesh is noted for disobeying God as a trait of adulthood, but if one needs to become a child, one needs to look beyond the carnal and concentrate on spiritual things. It is the life of Jesus Christ that we have to study and imitate because He is the perfect example of someone who lived like a child (Son of God).

In physical terms, there are many characteristics of what a child exhibits. Some of them include: humility, obedience, not holding grudges against someone who has offended him, and having faith in his parents that whatever he asks, they will provide for him. A child doesn’t become bitter no matter what anyone does against them. Even if he is punished by his parents, moments after you will see him flowing with them. As a God, Jesus Christ had to limit Himself from that status into the status of a ‘man’ (Philippians 2:7). As a righteous person, He had to mingle with the unrighteous in order to save them (Matthew 9:10-13). A child in Christianity is like a sheep in the midst of wolves.

No matter the brutal experiences he went through before his death on the cross, He was never offended or bitter. This is the life Paul studied and imitated (1 Corinthians 11:1). A lawyer by profession who had to lay aside his old lifestyle (Christian persecution) that made him an ‘adult.’ He became a child when he repented, converted, and responded to the call of God. Even though he had so many things and wen through a lot of experiences that could make him proud as an ‘adult,’ he saw all of them as dung. Flesh and blood didn’t interest him anymore lest submission to the Spirit of God. Eternal life is for those who are children and not adults (Matthew 18:3; 19:14).
