CONTINUE EARNESTLY IN PRAYER, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;
-Colossians 4:2 | NKJV
Jesus Christ told us a parable about a certain widow who lived. This woman was quite poor in the city she was living in because, the breadwinner, her husband had died. There came a time when this widow had a case with her enemy and was taken to court in the process because her adversary was richer than her. It is hard to see many rich people losing cases in court. Even if they are guilty, they can use their money to buy out a justification. This is because they can hire good lawyers or can gag the mouths of corrupted judges from passing fair judgements even if they are guilty. In this case, fair judgement cannot be executed to condemn rich people into prison when they are guilty.
Because the poor woman couldn’t afford a lawyer, it seemed that all hope was lost until she heard that the judge who would sit on her case was also from the same city she was also in. She then thought it wise to visit the Judge and explain her matter to him, maybe he would execute a just judgement. Little did she know that this Judge was a very difficult man. He didn’t fear God or even favoured men. As a Just Judge, he didn’t give a damn about the deceptive appearances of plea people put up for justice to be tempered with mercy. Deviant people sometimes see those who are just towards their dealings, as people who are hard, difficult, strict and wicked.
The poor woman went there and presented her case before the judge. Initially, the Judge was not moved by her case at all. No tears could melt down his heart to have compassion for her. He was not going to do anything about it since a decision had already been made. Another day the widow went there with the same plea but the judge wasn’t moved. She went there repeatedly until one day, the judge sat down and began thinking about this persistent widow who wouldn’t let him have his peace of mind. The judge said within himself, ‘Though I fear not God, nor regard man, yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’
So, this Judge became the lawyer of the widow, avenged and delivered her from the hands of her adversary. This parable Jesus Christ gave was a resemblance of Christianity. The judge is God, the widow is the Christian and the adversary is Satan. We are poor in spirit because our souls seek the Spirit of God relentlessly. Now, the petition of the widow is prayer. God answers persistent prayers because He wants to see our seriousness and diligence. Don’t pray one or two days and say you are tired. Prayer is a daily habit. You don’t have to cease praying. Don’t pray because you want something from God. Pray because it is part of the faith you have in our Lord and God Jesus Christ.
•| Prayer Diary |•
¹Lift up prayers for the strength of God to be an effective fervent prayerful person. ²Lift up prayers for the grace to be persistent in monotonous prayers concerning your needs and wants. ³Lift up prayers for consistency in ministry. ⁴Lift up prayers for valuation of your private prayer life over public prayer moments. ⁵Lift up thanksgiving prayers for the privilege God has bestowed on you to approach Him in prayers in the name of Jesus Christ.
