SEXUAL IMMORALITY
Adultery
David Abankwah
(SERIES: Day 3)

You shall not commit ADULTERY.
-Exodus 20:14 | NKJV

Another sexual immorality to be talked about today in this sexual immorality series, is adultery. Adultery is voluntary sexual intercourse between a married man and someone other than his wife or between a married woman and someone other than her husband. There are many types of adultery: adultery that comes by idolatry (Jeremiah 3:9); adultery that comes by physical contact, thus a married person having sexual intercourse with someone who is not his or her spouse (Jeremiah 29:23); adultery that comes through virtual means (Matthew 5:28); and adultery that comes by divorce without any evidential extramarital affair (Matthew 5:32; 19:9; Mark 10:11).

The church is the bride of Jesus Christ, because He has paid our dowry with His blood. The marriage will finally be blessed in New Jerusalem by God the Father (Revelation 19:6-9). Anyone who becomes a Christian is married to Him (Matthew 9:15; 25:1-13; John 3:29; Revelation 19:7; 21:2; 21:9; 22:17). If a believer commits sin (spiritual adultery), it is easy for an evil spirit to marry him or her. When something becomes an idol for a believer, that thing stands as a rival for God. This is the reason many have repetitious wet dreams, dreams of serial weddings, and sexual satisfaction after sleeping. Having faith in Jesus Christ is not all, there are certain things you have to work on.

You can be a good believer who prays, fasts, preaches, goes to church and all that, but when you are not delivered from spiritual marriage, God sees you as an adulterous person. If you want to be delivered, first you have to refrain from all sins and ask Jesus Christ to pay your dowry in the spirit through his priceless blood to God the Father (Revelation 5:9), so you can be delivered spiritually and become the bride of the Lamb. In the spirit, there are laws too that govern it and no spirit can own someone as his wife without paying the person’s dowry. If evil spirits even know how to pay their dowries, no man has an excuse for living with a woman he has not yet married or is cohabiting.

After physical marriage, the only license of divorce God gives is when your wife or husband is caught in the act of sexual intercourse and not what you insinuate or the rumours or gossips you have heard concerning the person. The person must be caught in the very act (John 8:3-4). The Pharisees and scribes caught the woman on the scene of adultery before they could confront Jesus Christ for His final verdict. You can’t just divorce your wife based on the fact that she is not giving you sex or the fact that she is disrespectful or her irresponsibility or probably, her submission or when your husband is not responsible or loving anymore. These things are trivial issues that cannot bring about divorce.

•| Prayer Diary |•
¹As you refrain from all acts of adultery as a married person, lift up prayers onto God to deliver you from the urge of having extramarital affairs. ²Lift up prayers for deliverance from all sexual fantasies that lead you into spiritual adultery. ³Lift up prayers for deliverance from idolatry that makes you put people or things before God in the name of Jesus Christ.
