NEEDS AND WANTS

When Jesus Christ came on the scene, His friend the Bible recorded was called Lazarus. This is because He knew what was in men and what people could do to change the course of His mission so He didn’t commit Himself to many friends (John 2:25). The friends you have, have a direct and indirect influence on your life, Godliness, and ministry. Lazarus had two sisters: Martha and Mary. One day when Jesus Christ visited them. While Martha was very busy in the kitchen trying to prepare food for Jesus Christ – their wonderful guest, Mary was also busily seated at the feet of Jesus Christ hearing the Word of God.
Martha got very disappointed in Mary, for not assisting her in the kitchen and that led to a burst out in Luke 10:41. Jesus Christ had to tell her the difference between a need and a want. Though it was a want for Him to eat, that was not the needful thing for Martha to do at that particular time. The difference between a need and a want is the quality of urgency and prioritization. This teaches us a very important lesson as believers. There are things we need and things that we want. Needful things are spiritual things but wants are physical things. Needful things are things that we seek out first for, because that is what will benefit our souls.
Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:33 that we should seek ye first the Kingdom of God (Holy Spirit) and His righteousness (Jesus Christ) FIRST and the things that are wants will also be added to us. Needful things are things that when you have, no one can take it away from you (Luke 10:42). The only properties we can have that no one can take them away from us is Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. But instead of us concentrating on the needful things, we channel most of our time towards the things that are wants. We mostly worry about wants like food, shelter, clothing, marriages etcetera which will not follow us after our death.
What the soul expects you to give him are the things that are needful and not things that are the wants of the body. When the soul needs to travel, it doesn’t need a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. When he needs to eat, he doesn’t need physical food, rather, he needs the Word of God. When the soul needs to cleanse himself, he doesn’t need water and soap, rather he needs the blood of Jesus Christ. When you sleep you forget about the physical things you even have. That tells you that physical things or wants of the body are useless kinds of stuff or unprofitable to the soul. If you die without knowing Jesus Christ which is the needful thing to do on earth, that is when the soul will be greatly troubled in the lake of fire eternally.

¹Lift up prayers for the strength to engage in the activities of the needful things of your salvation and that of others. ²Lord Jesus, as I set my mind, heart, and soul on you and the Holy Spirit, please help me maintain my spirituality onto the very end in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
