THE FEAR OF GOD
David Abankwah
READ: Isaiah 11:8

“The FEAR OF THE LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
-Proverbs 9:10 | NKJV

There are at least three types of fear I have noticed: Fear of the unknown, fear of creations, and the fear of the Lord. Fear of the unknown is that type of fear you feel without any justification. This type of fear is the fear that keeps one from achieving one’s dreams or aspirations. This fear is what is behind the notion of less self-respect or self-esteem that builds an inferiority complex within many people. There are some people who think they are good for nothing. This type of people normally compare themselves to other people a lot and because of that, they are unable to have the courage to do what is needed of them for productive Godliness, life and ministry.

In that case, they lose themselves, disvalue the gift(s) and talent(s) God has given to them and in the long run, fail to achieve anything good in life. They usually doubt that things will get better as the days go by. They usually give up in life and therefore, they hardly become successful people. The fear of creations is the feeling of anxiety towards the things that God has created. There are some people who are afraid of height. When you take them to a very high storey building and tell them to look down, they can even collapse. There are people who are afraid of water (hydrophobic). There are others who are afraid of certain animals. Personally, I am afraid of snakes.

You will see them trembling anytime they see such animals. There are people who are afraid of certain races, kindreds, languages, groups, certain abilities, and disabilities people have. There are other people who are afraid of the crowd. Take them before a crowd to speak and they will show signs of nervousness, intimidation, and shyness. Certain people also fear certain plants. When they eat certain foods, their allergies come. There are others who fear heavenly and fallen angels. There are countless examples of fear in the Bible. This is the reason many fear coming out at night because they think they will meet these beings. But there is a certain type of fear many people don’t have at all.

This fear is called the fear of the Lord. It is that fear that makes you hate evil and cling to sanctification, righteousness, and holiness. Anyone who doesn’t have the fear of the Lord definitely lacks the Holy Spirit. This is because one of the Seven Spirits of God is the FEAR OF THE LORD (Isaiah 11:2). If you know the punishment behind every sin or iniquity you commit and the judgement that awaits sinners, you will never drink from the cups of sin and iniquity again. Those who fear God knows what He is capable of doing when they break His laws (Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 21:8). You will walk in foolishness if you lack the fear of God, because sinning is lack of wisdom.

•| Prayer Diary |•
¹Lift up prayers for divine wisdom as you walk in the fear of the Lord. ²Lift up prayers for knowledge that comes along with the fear of the Lord. ³Lift up prayers for understanding as you fear God in all areas of your life, ministry, and Godliness in the name of Jesus Christ.
