WONDERS OF OLD
David Abankwah
READ: Deuteronomy 4:34

¹¹I will remember the works of the Lord; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. ¹²I will also meditate on all Your work, and talk of Your deeds.
-Psalms 77:11-12 | NKJV

Human beings by nature are marked by forgetfulness. We easily forget what people have done for us. Most at times, we exhibit ingratitude towards those who have gone through all odds to help us become who we are today. No wonder people use fake mothers and fathers as their real parents to grace their ceremonial meetings especially weddings not because their real parents are dead, but because they are ashamed to show off the reality of their parents. They are ashamed to show off the wrinkle lines on the faces of their real parents. Many church members respect and honour their Pastors more than their parents and also their Pastors more than their husbands.

In reality, they have never washed the clothes of their biological parents before, neither have they done any good thing for them before. Some believers are even at loggerheads with their parents but they flow well with their Shepherds. What hypocrisy is this? No matter who you are, when you visit your parents, you are still a son or daughter. No matter the pinnacle of success you are, or the academic ladder you have climbed to, or the status you have, you are not greater than your parents. If they had decided to abort you, you wouldn’t have become who you are today. Parents need honour no matter who they are or how offended you have become because of them.

True honour comes from remembrance. The reason you can’t honour people is that you easily forget what they have done for you and it is a sin to behave like that. Doing good doesn’t come easy at all. People are vessels God uses to bless us. When we are ungrateful to men, we will also be ungrateful towards God. Those who remember what the Lord has done for them are dear to God’s heart. David was dear to God’s heart because he remembered the works of God in his life and the things of nature. David remembered that before he became a King, he was nobody. When he was nobody, it was God who chose him, anointed him, and helped him become somebody important in society.

It takes the wonder of God to overturn the tables for you and when you are successful, don’t forget God. From the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation, it entails the wonders of God. There are references and examples in the Bible for us to appreciate. From the genesis of our lives to its revelation, we have encountered the wonders of God. Sometimes, we want to see the wonders of old before we can know divine power at work. Yet, God does new wonders in our lives always. To sleep is a wonder. To wake up is another wonder. Because sleeping is a wonder, no one can tell the time he slept and the time he will wake up. It is God who wakes us up and not our alarms.
