THE DUO ADVOCATES

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

There are two main Persons in the Godhead who play the role of Advocacy. The word ‘duo’ goes beyond just a word that stands for two. It is a definitive noun that depicts two people who perform together, are usually seen together, or are associated with each other. When we talk about Biblical Advocate, we normally think of the Holy Spirit as the only Advocate. Today, I am here to enlighten you about another Advocate in the Godhead that many believers don’t pay much attention to, who is in the Person of Jesus Christ. Before we begin, let us look at the meaning of the word ‘Advocate’ because it seems many believers don’t understand this word well.
An Advocate does three main things: 1. He pleads the cause of others.
- He maintains or defends a cause or proposal of people. 3. He supports or maintains the interest of the cause of a person. In a nutshell, the office of an Advocate is to plead, maintain, and support. These are the works of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. They work together and it is God the Father who sends them. One thing you need to realise is that, God is one in purpose, but three in essence (three separate persons in One God and not three Gods).
God the Father is the Head over the Son and the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 11:3). Like the body, it is the head that controls the rest of the body.
The head has the eyes that see, ears that hear, a nose that smells, a tongue that tastes, a mind that thinks and coordinate everything, and mouth that speaks. So, the leader of the Godhead is God the Father (Yahweh). The Father is the faculty of decision making in the Godhead. We can see this during the creation of man (Genesis 1:26) as the leader of creation. The Son and the Holy Spirit cannot send the Father. God respects leaders because He is a leader. If you are a wife and you don’t respect your husband as your head, you are a fool. Today submission has become a bitter medicine to take in. Many women are so proud that they can’t humble themselves under any authority.
The Son and the Spirit work hand in hand. The Spirit is the Word and the Word is the Spirit (John 6:63). That is the meaning of the Word being the two-edged sword, not a one-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). The first Advocate laid the foundation by reconciling us back to God the Father on the cross. The second Advocate came to build on the former’s foundation. The first Advocate came purposely for sinners but the second Advocate came purposely for the righteous. The reason you are not having the Spirit of God is because of sin. He is responsible for sustaining Christians in the faith and to lead them to New Jerusalem for the enjoyment of eternal life.
