DIVINE RECEPTIVITY
David Abankwah
READ: Habakkuk 1:13
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
-1 Peter 3:12 | NKJV
Have you ever reached a point in your life where you felt your efforts of helping others did seem unnoticed and the needed attention towards you unpaid? Have you ever had disappointment in someone whom you almost lost your life for, just to realise at the end of it all that, he or she was indifferent towards your dying efforts of help? Have you ever sought the attention of the people you love, yet, it seems you were living in their shadows? Have you ever reached a point in your life where you felt like God was not with you anymore because of the serial situations you find yourself battling against? Then, today’s devotional about divine receptivity is rightfully yours.
One thing you need to realise is that living our lives of sanctification, righteousness, and holiness has their benefits in Christianity, life, and ministry. One of the key importance of righteousness is that it centres God’s attention (divine receptivity) on us. Let me give you a little scenario. When you see a certain guy or lady stealing glances at you, it means there is a certain attraction or chemistry going on. There is something about you that this person likes and because of this feature you have, it is able to stimulate the optical nerves of that person, making him or her receptive to approach or being approached by you. There is always a reason people are attracted towards others.
For you to catch God’s attention or be receptive towards Him, you need to know the likes and dislikes of God. The feature of clinging to good and eschewing evil, is the feature on you that God’s eyes can behold. The reason we have wrong relationships frequently is that we don’t know what people like and what they hate. So, we end up at the losing extremities. There is only one thing that catches God’s attention. That is righteousness. Righteousness is not only about abstinence from sin, but doing everything God has commanded in His Word, and allowing His will to be done always. There are many believers who think when they don’t fornicate, etc, they are righteous.
They don’t know that, when they don’t pray a day, they have sinned (1 Samuel 12:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:17). When they don’t fast, they don’t know they have sinned (Matthew 6:16). When they don’t preach and teach the Gospel, they don’t know they have sinned (Matthew 28:19-20). Today certain believers have their Pastors as their Bibles. Instead of them searching the Scriptures to know what God likes and dislikes, you see them telling you ‘My Pastor says this my Pastor says that’ and not that, “the Word of God says this or that.” The eyes of God and His ears are open to those who do what He likes and are closed to those who do what He hates. This makes divine receptivity plausible.

¹Lift up prayers for strength to engage in the things of righteousness so the eyes of the Lord can be on you. ²Lift up prayers to engage in the acts of holiness so your prayers can be answered anytime you lift up prayers onto God. ³Lift up prayers and intercede for sinners or unbelievers so the face of the Lord will not be against them as they engage in the acts of evil in the day of judgement in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
“If the eyes of the Lord cannot watch sin, then what about the prayers of a sinner?”
