FOLLOWERS OF GOODNESS
David Abankwah
READ: Ephesians 5:1-7

And who is he who will harm you if you become FOLLOWERS OF WHAT IS GOOD?
-I Peter 3:13 | NKJV

Many people are notable of following after things which are bad. They know what is good but they will never do it. This attitude of carnality can be traced to the first Adam. The first Adam lived in the Garden of Eden and walked with God, yet when Satan came, he left God and followed Satan. There were two trees in the Garden of Eden: The tree of knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life. The forbidden tree of evil which God told man not to eat was the one he ate and left the good tree of life which God didn’t forbid him. God never said anywhere that, when you eat from the tree of life, you will die. Man from the beginning followed after evil (forbidden tree) and left the good (tree of life).

This attitude continued from generation to generation even to this time. Instead of Cain humbling himself for his younger brother to teach him how to sacrifice to God, he didn’t follow after what was good. Cain followed after pride which was evil and eventually, that led him to kill his brother. The people at the time of Noah listened to the good preaching of Noah, yet they mocked him as many people are doing now when you preach salvation. These people also followed after their evil ways and died by the flood when the longsuffering of God lasted for them in their grace period. Ham followed after evil when he mocked his father Noah when he was drunk.

Let us check our lives very well. What are you and I following after more than God? Many of us have been hearing the Word of God for quite a time, yet their lives are still the same. As others are singing, ‘Great change since I met Christ,’ others are also singing, ‘No change since I met Christ.’ Do you see where your soul is heading towards? God doesn’t have time for you to pamper you so you will serve Him. He doesn’t have the heart for those who follow after evil when such people have been warned by His Word. The Gospel must be preached to serve as evidence so no one can have an excuse in the day of judgement. If you are going back into the world of drinking, please stop.

You can’t be a drunkard and still be a wise person (Proverbs 20:1). Wise people don’t drink alcohol. Don’t follow after what is not food. There is accountability for everything you follow after. Young woman, don’t reconsider going back to your ex-boyfriend just because you are in financial crisis. Until you have HIV/AIDS, you will never understand what it means to abstain from sexual immorality. Everything you follow has its term(s), condition(s), consequence(s) you have to bear. Eternal life in New Jerusalem is the gift of God for people who live in righteousness, holiness and sanctification and the wage of living in sin, iniquity, transgression and abomination is the lake of fire.
