Today’s Message, Authored By David Abankwah Is Entitled As, RIGHTEOUSNESS FULFILMENT
And Our Main Text Is Taken From Matthew 3:15
Further Scriptural Reading: Ezekiel 18:24
But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS.” Then he allowed Him.
John the Baptist began his ministry before Jesus Christ, because, his ministry of forerunning should be prior to the Messianic ministry. The crooked path of the Messiah needed to be made straight by the forerunning Minister. I believe the reason John the Baptist leapt in his mother’s womb when her mother heard the greetings of Mary was that, the soul of John might have been delighted to see who Jesus Christ really was in the spiritual realm before He was born. I guess they went on to discuss their purposes why they were sent to accomplish, the vision, and mission of their ministries and the challenges involved. The Spirit of Elijah had an unfinished business to attend to.
Finally, they met at the River Jordan but their meeting was not a mere one. It was the meeting between the Old Testament (with John the Baptist as the last Prophet of the Old Testament) and New Testament (with Jesus Christ as the Founder of Christianity). Jesus Christ had to bury the Old Testament and plant the New Testament in water (water symbolising the Holy Spirit). River Jordan was a symbol of life which meant that the New Covenant would bring eternal life to those who would follow the steps of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist hardly knew why he had to baptise Jesus Christ because he saw the need that it was him who needed it. Humility is always needed in ministry. It doesn’t depend on who is older.
Jesus Christ told him that, ‘Suffer it to be so, for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.’ There is a clear difference between righteousness and holiness. Righteousness is about the good life you live with your human body but holiness is about the good life you live with your soul or inner man which is only attainable through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. You can be righteous and not holy but you can’t be holy without being righteous. Many believers do not sin when people are around them but they sin in the closets of their minds and hearts. Secrecy proves one’s identity (Proverbs 23:7). Physically, you may not be a sexually immoral person but spiritually you are one when you look at people lustfully (Matthew 5:28).
To fulfil all righteousness, you have to confess and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. Then you have to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ by immersion in a river (not a lake, swimming pool or sprinkling of water). You have to be baptised with the Holy Spirit and persecution. You have to dress decently like Him, physically hygienic, and spiritually sanctified. You have to teach and preach the Gospel to the world. Abstain from all manner of sins, pray, fast, pay your tithe (to God) and tax (to the government in power) and read your Bible and meditate always. Follow the steps of Jesus Christ carefully clinging to what He did and eschewing what He did not. Stay Blessed.
