HAMANIC FORESIGHT

THE DAVIDIC DEVOTIONAL

David Abankwah

Then the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden; but Haman stood before Queen Esther, pleading for his life, for he saw that evil was determined against him by the king.
-Esther 7:7 | NKJV

A Ghanaian motivational speaker, writer and entrepreneur – Jeremiah Buabeng in one of his career compass campaigns in Accra Technical University, once said that, he was not surprised to see the outcome of his life now. Why? Because he discovered his capability, ability and capacity, for his dream’s actualisation. He had foresight about who he would be, and he worked towards it. As he started motivating people in school, some of his colleagues thought he would not reach far. Some said he would be victimised like those, who started and failed along the way. Yet, little did they know that it was his foresight that motivated him to do more, manoeuvring over every situation.

The Biblical version of Adolf Hitler – Haman in the kingdom of Ahasuerus who being a tyrannical figure to the Jews, in particular, wanted to secure a higher position for himself by taking down the lives of those who were his competitors. The bizarre thing about Haman was that, his foresight in dealing with his enemies was not only individualism but the people they were associated with (friends, family, loved ones, etcetera). In that case, his plan was to wipe out Israel because of one person – Mordecai, but the Jews were not aware of his device (Esther 7:4). In sin, Haman was an expert, but in holiness, he was an amateur. This is what many who profess to be Christians are.

Mordecai, an uncle to Queen Esther got to know of Haman’s secret plot through inquisition. King Ahasuerus got to know of the secret annihilation plan of Haman when Queen Esther told him when they were banqueting. Haman’s insinuation about the King’s plan was right as if he was in the King’s head in Esther 7:7. That eye for true future events is called FORESIGHT. Foresight is to see ahead of the outcome of something and planning prudently for it. After Haman seeing what would happen to him, made providence for it but his amendment was too late. God is a God of proactivity and a God of foresightedness. He saw the universe from afar, and built it from scratch with divine code.

He then saw the danger ahead and brought Jesus Christ to provide us with salvation to escape that terrible day of judgement. Jesus Christ, the second person of God, has then entrusted us to the care of the Holy Spirit – the third person of God, to help Christians overcome sin that blinds us and make us shortsighted. This world will not be there forever. You need to have a foresight of where your soul will be, after this present universe and work towards it with fear and trembling. Don’t have the Hamanic foresight that always says Had I known. Hamanic foresight only amends his ways when things are too late. Christians need to have the godly kind of foresight that is always proactive.
