Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.
-Ecclesiastes 9:10 | NKJV
Talent and gift are two different gifting given by God of which we will account for in the day of judgement, whether we used them for the fulfillment of divine will, many believers usually use them interchangeably, thinking they are the same. A talent is natural; a gift is spiritual. A talent is hereditary (from man to man); a gift is imparted from (God to man). You can be trained by a soul to have the skill of a talent, but to have a gift, you have to be possessed by the Holy Spirit. Talent is body innately; gift is soul innately. Talent is static but gift is dynamic. A talent can be learnt, but a gift is ordained. A talent is mainly for the benefit of humanity, but a gift is mainly for the benefit of divinity.
Everyone was brought into this world for a purpose. Our Creator knew us before we were even born (Jeremiah 1:5). In that case, He prepared us with all the things we needed for a better living. Whatever mission we had to accomplish, was programmed by the invisible hands of God. So, He knew the specific time we ought to do certain things. The necessary talents were then incorporated into each and every individual, making us distinct and special. The unfortunate thing is that, we forget the Creator and choose our own paths. The mission which we needed to accomplish, is then thwarted by our own decisions and works. Sometimes we don’t use the talent we have, but, we try to copy the lives of others.
Many people desire to have the talents others have, and in so doing, leaves the works of their talents undone. We are unique based on the strength we have to use the talents God has given us. God has given every family a unique talent. To discover your true talent, you need to contact your Creator. A talent is an unusual innate ability that a person has in some field or activity. There are two talents: the talent of life and the talent of ministry. The talent of life makes you efficient for secular jobs and the talent of ministry makes you efficient for divine job. We are entreated in Ecclesiastes 9:10 that, whatever talent that makes us efficient in some field of work, we need to make use of them.
We don’t need need to use our talents to fulfill devilish and selfish agendas. We don’t need to let our talents lie dormant. We need to use them, because, after our death, we can’t use them any longer. In the afterlife, there is no work or usage of talent. Your talent is taken right away by God after your death. The thing that will make you capable of doing activity A or B, is rendered unprofitable. The person with one talent in Matthew 25:18 didn’t use the talent God gave him and he was condemned to eternal damnation. We will not be judged only on how well we lived righteous and holy lives, but also on how efficient we made our talents count for the benefit of others. Use your talent(s) now!
