TEACHING THEM

David Abankwah

READ: Colossians 3:16

Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

-Matthew 28:20 | NKJV

Knowledge, they say is power, but where does knowledge come from? To the carnal, knowledge comes from how heedful we are to information, but in Godliness, knowledge comes from God the Father, wisdom (application of knowledge) comes from Jesus Christ, and understanding (the depth of knowledge) comes from the Holy Spirit. Every knowledge is a piece of information we receive. You don’t know things because you were born with it. You know things because you were taught. Unfortunately, many don’t value those who impart much information. In this case, few students remember their teachers after school. Many professions are paid well more than teachers.

Instead of paying teachers very well, many people say the reward of teachers is in heaven. Many teachers are not treated well with respect and honour they deserve. But without teachers, we would not have had Pastors, doctors, lawyers, engineers, science laboratory technologists, and what have you, around. Teaching is not always about tutors standing before us behind a board, but by various means. Information can be passed through perceivable and intangible media. Perceivable media include physical contacts like tutors, nature, multimedia like television, radio, books and the rest. Intangible media involves spiritual beings like God, angels, and evil spirits.

Not all knowledge comes from God. Satan has a way of passing out knowledge to our minds. He blends near truths with falsehood and lures us from divine truth (Genesis 3:1-5). In the Garden of Eden, He blended partial truth of open sightedness and wisdom, with the lie of eternity. In Sodom and Gomorrah, He passed out false knowledge of sexual immorality to the people to engage in. Because Satan is the father of all lies, God also has a way of imparting knowledge of truth. He has gifted some people with the office of teaching (Ephesians 4:11). The first teacher in the Bible was Moses. Most teachers of God’s word are Authors. And I am also glad to be God’s chosen Author.

God is still appointing teachers of the Word to interpret the Bible in truth. Everything one can do, should be taught. When Jesus Christ left the scene, He tasked His ministers to be circumspect about teaching the saved souls and the rest of the saints. During Christ’s second coming, there will be people who will say, ‘Oh God, we didn’t hear this or that.’ For such flimsy excuses, God doesn’t want to hear. He wants all the world to know the Gospel before He comes (Matthew 24:14). This is because no one can be prosecuted without evidence of a crime. This confirms God’s fairness in executing true judgement. And this is why we have to preach the unsaved and after that, teach the saved.
