RECONCILIATION

David Abankwah

READ: Hebrews 2:17

¹⁸Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, ¹⁹that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

-2 Corinthians 5:18-19 | NKJV

How nicer it is for two people who are at loggerheads to find some space of time to forget their mess past of conflict, misunderstanding, quarrel, bitterness, and hurt; settle their difference, make peace in the long run and become friendly again. I always feel relieved anytime I see people getting back on level terms after their breakup. Personally, I can’t stand holding grudges for a long time with people and naturally I am a peacemaker. Some time ago, I tried to make peace between two of my Aunties, but I noticed that, they were grownups enough to know better. I feel guilty when I am at loggerheads with people. When I am offended with people I can’t look into their faces.

Also when I am at loggerheads with people, I have sleepless nights thinking about how I can make amends even when the other party has rather offended me. But there are others, who are comfortable with offences and holding of grudges. The day they have a grudge with someone is the day they can sleep very well. For them, they are comfortable having an enemy and anyone who becomes a mediator, is seen as the destroyer of a comfortable plan of malice. But under normal circumstance, it should not be so. You are possessed by the evil spirit of bitterness and unforgiveness. The world and its fullness was created with love, peace and harmony between the Trinity.

Why then is this strange and foul thing called hate? It emanated from Lucifer. He was envious of God’s position and made plans for coup d’état, marauding one-third of the angels in heaven to overthrow God, but he failed finally. He was rather overthrown from heaven onto the earth (Revelation 12:9). Since then, he sought to influence man for a truce, so they could form an alliance to complete the failed mission. After a successful alliance between man and Satan which happened when man fell, divine friendship was broken (sin). Hostility set in the relationship between man and God. God wanted to end the enmity but reconciliation could not be complete without a Mediator.

That was why Jesus Christ was sent by God from heaven to serve as a Mediator to make God and man, friendly again. This act of reconciliation is called salvation. The message of reconciliation in Christianity is called the Gospel and the One who is carrying out the ministry of reconciliation is seen as the Preacher (Romans 10:14). Unfortunately, many people are unaware that they are God’s enemies. That is why this message of reconciliation (Gospel) needs to be presented to them. If you fail to accept the reconciliation terms and conditions, there is a consequence of eternal suffering in the lake of fire. If you accept the message of reconciliation, you will be saved (John 3:16).

¹Lift up prayers to give yourself as a living sacrifice and unrelenting effort to carry out the burden that comes along with the ministry of reconciliation. ²Lift up prayers against the spirits of disloyalty, misunderstanding and conflicts that prevent you from making peace in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote

“Making peace between God and man is the sole ministry of the Gospel”
