THE WAY AND THE ODD
David Abankwah
READ: James 1:2-3

Because narrow is the gate and DIFFICULT IS THE WAY which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
-Matthew 7:14 | NKJV

After a gate has been established to allow passage, the person who has entered through the gate has freedom to operate in a certain space. That space becomes a medium of operation and a course leading in a direction or toward an objective. When you flow on the way that has created a space for you, you begin to enjoy certain benefits, opportunities, capacities and abilities that when you were outside the gate, you weren’t having. Behind many gates lies many treasures and it is when you get past the gate that is when you can only operate in such blessings. But there are some odds that will go against you when you pass through the gate or operate in the spaces beyond.

After someone enters into the gate of school administration to be admitted as a student, the odds of the way the person has chosen are not disclosed to him in the beginning. The odds of trailing and resitting a paper, the burning of the midnight candle, various assignments and examinations, expelling from the school because of deviant behaviours and what have you, are kept until you begin assessing the spaces on the road to the final glory which is the certificate. You can’t say you have paid fees so you have to pass when you trail a paper. You can be the best student but if you trespass, you will be penalised. Every way has its odd(s) you have to pass through.

Many people have chosen certain ways or paths of life which has landed them into serious trouble (odd), yet, they are still going through for the sake of some glory ahead. Why then can’t we channel such endurance into Christianity? We should know that the path we have chosen has its odds that will go against us. If we can go through certain difficulties in life, then we can certainly go through the difficulties of Christianity. Jesus Christ was good to even disclose to us that there are odds in Christianity so when we encounter them, we should see them as normal for He has already overcome the world (such odds). Being our role model, he suffered too, setting as example for us.

If earthly glory like an academic certificate, highly respectable position, medal, cup, or an award can be attained without escaping the odds of the game, then eternal life in Christianity cannot be attained on a silver platter. You can’t be in Christianity without going through difficulties for the sake of your faith. Any Christian who is not suffering for his faith is a lukewarm person. They seek help and enter the broad way just to make shortcuts as their remedy. There is no remedy outside Christ for there is only one way – the narrow road. You can’t help God by constructing roads of shortcut. Anytime you create shortcuts, you are channelling your path into the broad road of the devil.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for the strength to go through the odds of the narrow way for the purpose of eternal life without faltering in the name of Jesus Christ.
