CHRISTIAN HEAD COVERING
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 13
Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?
-I Corinthians 11:14 | NKJV
One of the understanding that women should cover their heads and men not covering their heads in the presence of God is that, the nature itself teaches us that. Someone will ask, how can nature itself teach us things without speaking to us? Teaching is not always by speech. We have been hearing speeches of teaching from faithful Ministers of God but how many of them have we been able to keep? If we can’t even hearken to the voice of true Ministers, how can we hearken to nature which does not speak like we do? Nature’s teaching without speech is even loud and clear than the teachings of false Ministers. An animal could see an angel while a human who saw himself as a Prophet was blind.
This brings us to two types of teaching: non-verbal teaching and verbal teaching. Verbal teaching is the in-depth expression of the Gospel to others by speaking. Non-verbal teaching is the expression of the Gospel to others through one’s behaviour. As we ought to preach the Gospel as commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, we also have to express the Gospel through the way we behave. The expression of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is what can truly confirm that we know the Gospel and not what we say. True expression of faith is by living it and not by saying it. There are certain people who can be saved only by the life you live and not what you preach to them about.
If nature has a nonverbal teaching that when a man has a long hair it is a dishonour to him, then what about those who do attachment of their short hair to make it longer? It is not only women who do attachment but some men too. They attach their short hair with certain cosmetics to make it longer than usual. They don’t have natural dreadlocks but they will induce their short hair to have one. And what is worse is that, they cover it when they are in the presence of God. If long hair is what you want as a man, why do you cover it then when you are in the presence of God? You know within you that, that is not what your conscience (nature) teaches you to behave yourself in the presence of God.
You can’t be excused that you have long hair so you should be allowed to uncover your head in the presence of God as a woman. And you can’t also be excused that you have long hair as a man so you should be allowed to cover it. Many churches allow men with long hair to cover it in the presence of God. There are many churches who are congregation of the dead so they don’t know their left and right. As a man if you have long hair given to you naturally by God, it is not a shameful for you to hide it by covering it in the presence of God. Samson didn’t have to cover his head in the presence of God because the long hair of seven locks was naturally given to him by God.
•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for humility to hearken to the teachings of nature which does not conflict with the true teachings of God in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
There are unbelievers who can only be saved only if believers walk the talk of faith and not talk the walk of faith to them.
