THE HEART AND ITS TREASURES
David Abankwah
READ: Matthew 12:34-35; 15:19

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
-Matthew 6:21 | NKJV

When my heart used to be in the world, I used to support Manchester United Football club. I used to love this club very much even though I was a believer. Because this football club was like a treasure to me, I used to spend time watching their matches. Even though I didn’t watch their matches when there are church meetings, my body was actually in the church but my heart was always on the match. Sometimes I would anticipate we are winning. I used to check the internet everyday to read updates concerning what was happening in the club. When there was any transfer news, I would know majority of them even before the local media outlets would break the news.

I also used to spend time talking about the club especially with those who supported it. My heart was with those who was supporting what I was supporting and those who did not, I had no business with. There are many people like that in the churches now. They honour God with their lips but their hearts are far away from God. Anytime your affection is centred on worldly things, the love of the Lord cannot be in you. The heart is connected with love and it is the organ that is deceitfully wicked. Every issue of life such as evil thoughts, murders, sexual immoralities, thefts, false witnessing etc comes out of it. If you don’t take care, your heart will lead you to hell.

The things you normally keep within your heart is what becomes your treasure. It can be good and it can be evil and this is what tells your personality. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks
-Luke 6:45 NKJV. Instead of filling the heart with the treasure of the Word of God, many believers are filling it with bitterness, unforgiveness, blasphemies, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, drunkenness, revelries etc.

When you were first keeping good treasures within your heart, you once condemned certain things that were ungodly and worldly but now the same things you condemned is what you are doing. Where your treasure is, there your heart is also. Now, your treasure is not in God but in the devil. You give your substance to support foolish things but when you go to church you complain about tithes and offerings. You are not serious. You complain Pastors are using your money to buy cars. Which money do you think they should use to buy those cars? You have fallen that’s why you are making those comments. As the world keeps getting to its end, lustful things come into play to lure you.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for the strength of God to bring good treasures of love, peace, joy, longsuffering, goodness, kindness, temperance, self-control and faithfulness out of your heart in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
What your affection is set on more or less than God, is what determines your place of eternity.
